Im having trouble finding a bad review of this thing
@speed, the aftermarket is gonna be on this thing like rice on a 370z.
Im sure within the first few weeks of launch you will be seeing tunes, exhausts, intakes, and a shit ton of other bolt ons and soon after that youll have fixed induction!

Goodbye.
Yeah. a 280hp 250torque subbie factory version of this will be worth waiting for. We already know the chasis can handle 300hp and still be fun. I'm def going to hold out for the refresh/new model in 3-4 years.

yea there will def be a lot of aftermarket stuff, but lets say i buy this car at the current config. I'd rather put in the money first in autocrossing/tracking lessons and sessions first. Then I'd go aftermarket.
Orrrrr since I'm still a student, hopefully I'll find a decent job in a couple years and I can afford something more. By that time maybe the higher hp version will be out!! Then its the sense of at that age practicality may be an issue...

Hopefully the turbo version will not suck with this chasis and then maybe I'll get that as my funday drive car, or.....just save money for the NSX

AutoX isn't about power, its about suspension and smoothness.
You have the right idea. Learn to drive the car as is, first. Then, start tweaking it.

My brother is 37 and wants this car. I dont believe in such things as "age practicality". If it works for you, then by all means, rock it.

So it doesn't have a hatchback trunk, and it's only got two doors but the seat backs fold down. Assuming there isn't some sort of big cross-brace behind the seat like in 350/370Z you should be fine, unless you have kids. Sports cars aren't practical.
I've hauled some weird shit in my Camaro though. a six foot tall tree with the t-tops off, a couple of large (40"+) flat screens, and even a mountain and road bike with the front tires off. It's no wagon but that practicality is pretty useful, as I've learned. But you can live without it.

I mean I'm sure its practical enough for me now, but I'd probably plan on keeping a car at the minimum of five years probably longer if i'm not well off. So this car could easily go into my 30s assuming i can get it when i'm 23/24.
Well I guess its a good excuse for your friends to drive lol if you go places with people. Save on gas haha

Which is smart...because in its current config its in a pretty competitive AutoX class already. Modding it will only put up against even more competitive cars.

Goodbye.
yeah see, practicality for me is being able to fit a family in it without them being squeezed into a clown car and I also keep cars longer than the average person

The sizzle in the Steak
STI on the way!
Subaru disappointed some of its performance loyalists when its BRZ sports coupe arrived with the same 200 horsepower boxer-four found under the hood of the Scion FR-S, but that disappointment might not last for long.
Speaking with Auto Express, Subaru global marketing manager Atoshi Atake revealed that the Japanese automaker is already working on a more powerful version of the BRZ. Although Atake didn’t confirm, the high-performance model will likely be sold under the STI banner.
“We have already had many requests from interested customers regarding a faster version,” he said. “Let me say this – we will certainly satisfy our customers. We are already working on a faster version.”
The BRZ STI should boast about 250 horsepower, but Subaru will be forced to hit that figure without the aid of a turbocharger or supercharger. Atake says there simply isn’t room under the BRZ’s hood for a turbocharger and a supercharger would drink too much fuel.
The BRZ STI will also weigh less than the standard car, thanks to the use of a carbon fiber roof and hood, as well as the addition of sports bucket seats. A unique body kit will also be part of the STI package.
But the STI might not be the only BRZ variant on the horizon. Atake says a convertible model could eventually join the BRZ lineup. “We already have pillarless doors – you can imagine how removing the roof would make the car look,” he said.
The standard BRZ is just now arriving on dealer lots, so it will likely be a couple of years before we see STI or convertible variations – if ever.

I don't mind that at all. Like mentioned, F/I would be great for upping the power especially through aftermarket mods but that's not what this car is intended for. You can turbo an S2000 or a Miata but it sorta defeats the purpose.

I was gonna buy a lotus elise but I cant fit my 3 kids and 300 lb wife in it. WTF Lotus make cars for real people not midgets with no lives.
I bet noone complaining about power could even drive the car at 10/10's around a track in stock form. Learn to drive, improve your skill, and once you can put in lap times equal to michael schumaker then talk about upping the power. For a track, tires and brakes will be more of a concern.

I thought the autoblog review said it wont be under the moniker of STI, something different. Either way I'm excited. Better not take longer than 2 years! I dunno how long my acura can last lol

BRZ STi.... that sounds really good.
But the standard BRZ is already doing very well in Japan it seems.

Subaru BRZ commands brisk sales in Japan as U.S. debut nears
TOKYO -- Subaru’s BRZ sporty coupe, scheduled to go on sale in the United States April 20, is off to a brisk start in Japan, selling at a monthly rate quadruple initial forecasts.
Since the car’s Feb. 3 debut, Subaru parent Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. has sold 3,551 of the rear-wheel-drive BRZs, the company said in a statement today.
Subaru had forecast monthly sales of only 450 units in Japan. But it is not uncommon for newly released models in Japan to generate explosive orders at first before tapering off.
The sporty 2.0-liter, four-cylinder BRZ, which starts at 2.06 million yen ($24,830) in Japan for a stripped-down version, is the platform-sharing twin of Toyota’s Scion FR-S.
The U.S. monthly sales goal for the BRZ is 500.
Initial sales data suggest the BRZ is tapping a coveted younger customer base attracted to the car’s promise of sportier driving.
So far, nearly 60 percent of BRZ customers are under 40 years of age -- and two-thirds are picking the six-speed manual over the automatic transmission. The top-selling color is WR blue mica, in a nod to the signature hue of Subaru’s WRX performance line.

The more I look at them, I think I have to change my opinion and say I'd go with the FR-S
I like the profile better...I think I like the front better than I thought I did. And the fact that Scion won't/can't jack up their prices makes it a more appealing purchase.

^ Bingo. Ive never really liked the front bumper on the BRZ. But the possible carbon fiber roof/hood and other lightweight goodies on the rumored STI is very intriguing.

I'd definitely get one in black.

I dont know if it was this thread or another, but someone asked if there would be any bracing blocking the pass through:
My CL doesnt even have folding seats
Also, the car needs the spoiler. The rear looks bare without one.

Yes, but the only exterior thing that's going to change between the two are the badges. If you look at pics of the FR-S, you'll see it's identical to the pics of the GT86 above. Headlight on FR-S is slightly different too.

I think people are gonna want to do the jdm thing. Buy the scion fr-s and switch the parts and badges to make it a toyota like in japan.
Glad it is doing well in Japan and more orders for manual than auto.
I don't see why oem carbon fiber parts matter. The aftermarket will be all over this with probably 10 different variations of hoods.

Read this on the TL forums- Leave the seat unbolted (just 2 bolts at the base of the back portion) and if you need to fit something larger like dead bodies or lumber lift the butt part up and fold it to the floor, then lift the seat back up a little and lay it down.

Porsche?
I was refering to the seats and steering wheel in the GT86. The FRS seats and steering wheel are toned down in comparison.
A CF roof (if the latest STI rumor is to be believed) is a bit difficult for the aftermarket companies to produce....
But we still have those stupid cross braces blocking the opening.
