Insurance costs for this one will be high. A small front end end willl have to replace the entire front end.
I beleive those are 18's it's sitting on. with all of that sidewall it loooks like 20's could easily fit.
Like the looks but the Sky looks so much better!

It is not exactly "good looking" in the sense of a 360 or a DB7. However, it has PRESENCE. It looks substantial. More substantial than its price suggests.
Better?

Nice pics, the car is nice looking, from the rear I think its up there with lotus but the front, while fine, it is a little too round. Overall it will be a nice cheaper alternative to the Saturn. The SKY will truely be an amazing car, picking up where this car leaves off.

Cheap roadsters have a place in the market. Even the Miata is getting too expensive. Of course if I had the money I'd prefer an Honda S2000 or a BMW Z4, but those are steps up. The Solstice really has no competitors in its class except for the G6 convertible . Unless of course people don't cross shop them because one is two seats and the other is four. But I can see it happening.

On sale in early August
Solstice Set for Early August Sales - - By Paul A. Eisenstein -- Source: The Car Connenction
Reports of the Pontiac Solstice's supposed delay have proved somewhat exaggerated. Contrary to recent reports that the newPontiac roadster would be delayed until after the end of the critical summer season, the first two-seaters will actually roll into showrooms during the first week of August. "It really is coming this summer," said John Larson, general manager of the General Motors division. The first 1000 cars will go to the people who placed early orders as part of a promotion on Donald Trump's popular TV show, The Apprentice. Exactly how long it will take to deliver those cars is unclear, as GM intends a slow and cautious ramp-up of production.
Though Pontiac was able to hold the base price of the Solstice down below $20,000 by using many off-the-shelf components, the car also introduces some challenging new technology. That includes the first automotive use of hydroforming to shape large pieces of sheetmetal. In all, Larson told TheCarConnection.com that Pontiac has taken in nearly 9000 "sold orders" so far, which is well ahead of the company's expectations - and exceeds the total number of Miatas sold by Mazda last year. Pontiac officials are being cautious about sales and production plans, though insiders hint they'd like to get volumes up as high as 1500 roadsters a month, or close to 20,000 annually, but even at significantly lower volumes, they believe the Solstice will help kick-start the revival of the troubled Pontiac division.

Great news. Catching the end of the summer season is better than nothing. And 9K sold orders is great. I love that they threw in that that's more Miatas than Mazda sold all of last year, lol.

First Solstices to ship on Wednesday - - By Richard Truett - - SOurce: Automotive News
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Pontiac will ship the first batch of 2006 Pontiac Solstice roadsters to dealers on Wednesday, Aug. 3.
Dealers can sell the car as soon as it arrives, said Mark Reuss, General Motors executive director of vehicle architecture, on Monday at the Management Briefing Seminars.
Reuss said that in spite of media reports, there was no delay in shipping the Solstice to dealers.
He added that there were no last-minute problems with the Solstice and that the program will be profitable for GM. There is a waiting list of 10,000 customers for the Solstice, Reuss said.
Production of the Saturn Sky roadster, which shares its chassis with the Solstice, will begin later this summer, Reuss said.
GM will offer a detachable hardtop for the Solstice later this year, which can be bought via dealership parts departments.
Reuss said other variations of the Solstice are being considered for production. They include a high-performance model with a turbocharged engine, and a lightweight coupe with a fixed roof to appeal to club racers.

This car is going to be a hit for GM. The interior is great for a GM vehicle(and per the competition) and it looks cool. Good work GM; lets see this type of work carry thru to other upcoming products.

First Solstice delivered
Car News briefs: first Pontiac Solstice delivered - - Source: Autoweek
Some 136 folks from around the country took delivery of their Pontiac Solstice roadsters Aug. 5 at General Motors’ world headquarters in Detroit. Clark and Shelly Brinton of Boise, Idaho, were the lucky recipients of the first retail car. Brinton told AutoWeek he was having the car shipped back home. Why not drive it? “That’s too many miles,” Brinton said. “Don’t want to chip the paint!”
Pontiac expects to fill all 10,000 pre-orders for the Solstice by December.

I wish I had waited for the Solstice or Sky, I regret buying my S2000
Seriously though way to go GM, now, lets make it handle a little better and put some more juice behind it yeah?
Take the 18's off and put on 16" or 17" wheels and you have cheap track car (possibly)
