Safety Car
lets hope it doesnt have a bloctched mini-b pillar like the E-coupe.
IMO, that structural screw-up is enough of a deterance to purchase the car - no matter how much i love the rest of it...what a terrible solution on their part. i just dont have the ability of overlooking that.

I'm sure there's a Subaru with you name on it somewhere. With luck, you'll find it.

Okay maybe you're not a Subbie fan... maybe another brand/model.
You don't realize how difficult it is to design a car without a B pillar and yet have it be solid and meet tough crash test regulations. The tiny window in the back is necessary and I don't feel it ruins the car. Better that than the front of every car being ruined like the current Acura line-up.

C-Class to be Built In U.S.
From Motor Authority: http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1...c-class-in-u-s
Despite the recent downturn in the U.S. economy, luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz continue to see sales growth in the world's biggest car market. The falling dollar has made it even more profitable to build cars in America--and the automaker already builds M-, R- and GL-class vehicles in its Alabama plant.
Mercedes-Benz has now decided on the further development of its global production network. In connection with the launch of the next-generation C-Class in 2014, Mercedes-Benz will start building 20% of the cars at its Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama.
For management, the decision was simple. It is essential to have production facilities of the high-volume C-Class close to the market, and the svelte sedan is the best-selling Mercedes-Benz model in the U.S. market.
Production of the C-Class will also be altered back in Germany. The production of the C-Class sedan for markets in Europe will be concentrated at the Bremen plant in the future.

they badly need to up their game in the 6 cylinder category. Many other makers, including goddamn Ford and Chevrolet, have a high-reving 24-valve quad-cam V6 between 3.6-3.8 liters that throws the smack down on any of MB's V6's.

An Alabama-built Mercedes Benz huh? Good for America I guess, but kind of a blasphemy in a broader sense no?
I cant wait till the Chinese made cars start hitting the market.

Mercedes-Benz confirms 2011 C-Class Coupe
Mercedes Benz has made it official: the 2011 C-Class Coupe is on its way. The German luxury automaker has announced it will build the two-door C-Class at its massive Bremen plant, with production scheduled to begin in 2011. The addition of the Coupe gives Mercedes Benz three different variants of the C-Class, with a convertible almost certainly to follow. The impressively flexible Bremen plant, which employs 12,600 workers, also makes the C-Class sedan, wagon, GLK, two E-Class variants, the SL and SLK.
With the C-Class Coupe officially on its way to production, we're more than a bit curious as to how Mercedes will differentiate the smaller Benz two-door from the larger, more expensive E-Class Coupe. See, the bi-door E-Class already utilizes the C-Class platform, and the more expensive E Coupe is almost identical in every dimension to the C-Class Saloon. But the E-Class coupe commands a price premium of $9,000 compared to a C-Class sedan with the same 3.5-liter V6 engine.
We suspect Mercedes will shorten the C-Class platform to better differentiate the C Coupe from the larger, more expensive E Coupe. But unlike the larger E Coupe, which is virtually the same price as sedan with the same name, the C Coupe may receive a bit of a price bump compared to its sedan brethren. It's a good bet that we'll know a lot of these answers by the time the Paris Motor Show opens its doors to the media in September. Hit the jump to read over the official press release.

I'm all for LEDs but everyone and their momma (cept for Acura since they're still lost in the last decade) cannot be just slapping them on the lower edge of their headlights. that is just lazy. be creative with this, like Audi and VW.

Keep in mind that the old C-Coupe is still sold in Europe as the CLC and is rumored for a refresh soon. My guess is that a new "C Coupe" will just be a revised version of this model. As the article points out the new E Coupe is already based on the C-Class chassis. A new C coupe needs to be based on something smaller and a revised version of the CLC would fit the bill.

Heh. MB indeed got the short end of the stick. Chrysler got chassis and suspension designs from MB, and MB got interior design influences from Chrysler

Convertible
The C-Class powered by a V-6 engine is currently the smallest model offered by Mercedes-Benz in the U.S. but that's all about to change as the automaker is planning a raft of new, more efficient models to help meet more stringent fuel economy regulations as well as increase market share. Mercedes-Benz is in fact predicting that a family of compact models based on its next-generation B-Class platform, as well as new coupe and convertible derivatives of its next C-Class, will help boost sales in the U.S. by as much as 30 percent over the next five years.
The information comes from Mercedes’ U.S. chief Ernst Lieb who revealed to Automotive News that the automaker is planning a compact car onslaught starting from 2012. The first models will be based on the next-generation B-Class and will include a new coupe, crossover and sedan. A high-performance AMG variant is also planned.
These will be followed by an all-new C-Class in 2013. This new model will be built in the U.S. and will also spawn coupe and convertible variants. Note that a new coupe based on the current C-Class will go on sale next year as well.
Mercedes-Benz is primarily targeting BMW, specifically the 1- and 3-Series families. The automaker will also be offering a new range of four-cylinder units, both gasoline and diesel.
The biggest hurdle, however, remains pricing. The cheapest C-Class is currently listed at $33,600 so any model positioned below this car, such as the new B-Class derivatives, will have to be even cheaper than that. Expect pricing to be comparable with the BMW 1-Series, which itself starts at just over $29,000 in the U.S.

I really don't like the idea of the C-class being anything other than a sedan personally. I actually don't like the new E-coupe either as I think they are getting cheap (albeit efficient) putting them on the same chassis as the C. I do however like the CLS influenced exterior styling though. Anyhow just my opinion on the matter. I'm sure it will sell.
Oh and what the hell is up with this stupid pedestrian safety standards making every damn car look bulbous in the front with a way too high of a hoodline...?

What do you think of using the E Class chassis for the CLS? At this point, the CLS is on the last-gen E Class chassis (and the CLS is 20k+ more expensive).

I actually didn't know that. I guess as long as it works and they make the car work well with it then it doesn't matter that much. I just hate when styling gets botched due to lack of a newer chassis or when everything in a line-up starts looking the same. I guess that hasn't been the case with benz though. I actually really like MB latest styling A LOT! It's edgy yet manages to flow, unlike Acura where everything is just edgy but doesn't flow at all (in fact mostly looks like they sat down and said "ok, how many styling cues can we manage to add in this amount of space?"
