Stay or leave
can't wait to see the IS500, should be really interesting when it finally hits. I would expect it to be expensive, maybe not as much as the M3 but its not going to be that far off

Hate to rain on the parade, but autoexpress is not exactly accurate with upcoming predictions, and that's putting it nicely.
Here's their prediction about the Lexus RX330 from a few years ago, which they said would be a Lexus RX350 and would come as a 7-seater.

It would help give the A4 RS, AMG C-Class, and M3 a run for the money especially if the price is right. I'm sure a V8 is coming for the IS but not sure about the 5.0 part.
I figured an IS 440h would be in the cards for the performance model.

did i read that right? 0-60 in the sub sixes? that is NOT acceptable by any means, hopefully they were talking about the new LS460.

I'm the Firestarter
The IS350 was supposed to be in the sub-six seconds. This can't be right.

And if that 5 liter engine is a DI engine then more torque is guaranteed.

Now Lexus Joins The CC Fold - - By Chris Thorp - Source: Autoexpress
Watch out BMW - Lexus is getting roofless. The German firm might have thought its forthcoming 3-Series CC was going to have a monopoly in the folding hard-top compact executive market, but there's another new model on the way.
Pictures in this week's mag give the world its first glimpse of Lexus's new IS CC. Currently under top-secret development in Japan, the four-seater will also take on canvas-roofed rivals in the shape of Audi's A4 Cabrio and the Mercedes CLK.
Losing none of the saloon's style, the IS should offer exceptional refinement. The super-slim roof panels will help to maximise space inside, and leave a large luggage area when folded.
Sharing its mechanical parts with the saloon, the IS CC will come with a full range of engines. These will include a 2.5-litre V6 petrol and an all-new 175bhp 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel powerplant. While the petrol unit will be available with a six-speed automatic gearbox with sequential paddleshifters, the majority of IS variants are likely to have a manual transmission.
The standard saloon version of the IS was unveiled for the first time at March's Geneva Motor Show. With a sharp look and hi-tech underpinnings, it will pick up where its predecessor left off when it goes on sale late this year.
Breaking new ground for the firm, the folding hard-top version is unlikely to appear on price lists before 2007. Official details are being kept under wraps, but expect to see the new convertible in concept form at one of next year's major European motor shows.

There's no need pay attention to any press releases from Lexus about the IS - just look at the 3 series press releases and a short time later you'll get the same thing from Lexus.

Ahh, good point. I read:

IS430/460 Spied
Japan’s Future Rockets - - Source: Autoweek
At the Geneva Motor Show in March, Lexus launched its new BMW fighters, the IS models, introducing the V6-powered IS 250 and IS 350. But is there another IS that will punch the performance even higher?
Rumors from Japan point to a high-performance uber-IS powered by a modified 4.3-liter V8 producing 400 hp, but speculation also suggests a possible 3.5-liter hybrid with equal pulling power. At the same time, the German automotive press is going gaga over word that Lexus has registered the name “IS460”—suggesting the possibility of an even more powerful autobahner with a 4.6-liter V8 under the hood.
Recent photos from the Nürburgring show a disguised Lexus IS prototype with twin exhaust pipes, a hood vent and upturned trunk lid, all indicating this is the high-performance IS 430, if not the bolder IS 460.

If and when Lexus gives a special denotation to this car (ala-M/AMG), I will create a separate thread for it. For now, it stays with the general IS thread.

So now we can speculate that the next M3's match from Lexus will make more torque than the M3. I am making that assumption by comparing engine displacement.

Like I mentioned before - you don't need to bother with looking for announcements from Lexus about the IS - just follow the BMW news about the 3 series and something very similar will come out of Lexus shortly thereafter.
How much you want to bet that next year, Lexus will try to rain on BMWs parade at the Geneva show again when the E92 coupe debuts - by showing off its own IS coupe. And whenever the M3 comes out, Lexus will be right there with this thing.

V6+IMA > V8 (and more along with Honda's style of engineering)

That wing is so out of proportion with the size of the car. Ugly...
