Was it about the number of cylinders or the power ratings? Without FI, 4 cylinders always make far less than a 6 Now that FI is back in, cylinder count doesn't matter, specs do. My point is, all those 4 cylinder complaints from years ago when FI wasn't as common, weren't really aimed at the # of cylinders. They were aimed at the HP and TQ ratings.

Seriously, that car is 3300 lbs, has 274 hp and 269 torque, on regular gas, and gets 0-60 in 6.5 sec.
The Audi A4 has the same size engine but only 211 hp, and with the added weight of AWD at 3800 lbs gets the same 0-60 at a conservative 6.5 sec and less in several tests. They both have a 6 sp auto.
What's going on here? It can't just be a really shitty transmission on the Sonata...

but at the end of the day, 6.5sec is fast enough for this segment.

On this site maybe, but the general public? Their attention span, when it comes to car details, stops at the number of cyclinders.

Well the insulation & aircondition of car is not upto the standard and certianly not upto Honda Crosstour on similar heat levels.

2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS: Hot
In any case, cars parked in the sun get hot. But for the first time in a long time dealing with new cars, the air conditioning was not up to the task of keeping me happy / alive
After a few minutes of its full-strength wheeze, I had to-- gasp-- open the windows and just deal with the breeze. It took some time, but eventually it worked enough to bring me back to life

At 4:pm temperature is 109 but sun is not that bright as it is at 12:00pm.

We've been having some trouble with the air conditioning in our long-term Mitsubishi Outlander GT, but our long-term 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour has been keeping us consistently cool.
Last weekend, up in the Antelope Valley northeast of Los Angeles, the Crosstour's a/c proved its abilities in the triple digit summer swelter. Even in 100 degree desert conditions, the Crosstour's air conditioning proved capable of keeping four humans comfortable within its spacious black interior.

I said "almost " and it wasn't those wheels alone that had me feeling that way - just the way the car looked in that particular picture. You'd have to work hard to make an S class look .
#752
Theres a huge difference between a Hyundai with fake led's pasted to its bumper and a MB S-Class....
#753
wow hyundai is really stepping up their game in the auto industry, the new sonata is looking really good, for the price you get a pretty good bang for the buck
cant wait to see how much the fully loaded turbo will cost

Feds investigate '11 Hyundai Sonata for steering issues
David Shepardson / Detroit News Washington Bureau
Washington -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary investigation into steering issues reported on the 2011 Hyundai Sonata.
NHTSA said it reviewed field reports on 2011 Hyundai Sonata vehicles that allege either a separation of the intermediate steering shaft assembly upper universal joint that resulted in a complete loss of steering capability or a loosening, but not complete separation, of the upper universal joint connection.
The probe covers about 16,300 2011 Hyundai Sonata vehicles, NHTSA said in a statement posted today on its website. The popular vehicle accounts for nearly half of the company's car sales in the United States.

The auto safety agency has taken a broad interest in steering issues in recent months, opening investigations after very small numbers of complaints or reports.
Earlier this month, NHTSA opened an investigation into possible loss of steering in the 2010 Kia Soul, after getting one complaint alleging total steering loss. That vehicle was 2 months old with 4,300 miles. NHTSA's investigation of the Kia Soul covers about 51,000 vehicles. The agency said it was "very concerned" because it occurred without warning and compromised the brake system.
Both South Korean automakers are controlled by a parent company, Hyundai Kia Automotive Group. The vehicles that reported problems were manufactured by Hyundai during the same month and had fewer than 600 miles of service at the time of the reports.
Hyundai spokesman Jim Trainor said the company isn't aware of any accidents or injuries connected to the issue and is fully cooperating with NHTSA in its investigation.
He said Hyundai had reports of two vehicles with a steering problem connected to the upper universal joint and both were repaired.
"No defect has been identified. It's too early to draw any conclusions about anything," Trainor said.

some guy on the hyundai boards was trying to get everyone to file a petition for the NHTSA to open an investigation for pulling issues with the new sonatas. Guess it worked...
#757
The pulling issue can be addressed by dealerships and countermeasures are in place.

It's official now.
Hyundai is recalling the Sonata for the steering shaft decoupling issue.

Hyundai has enjoyed its stronger sales ever so far in 2010 with its stylish, popular and competitive new Sonata sedan, but now the Korean automaker is set to face the downside to strong sales: bigger recalls.
So far in 2010 Hyundai has managed to drastically grow the sales of its now popular Sonata sedan, enjoying record sales month after month, but now Reuters is reporting that some 139,500 Sonata sedans sold in the U.S. will be recalled due to assembly problems with the steering wheel that could result in reduced or totally lost steering control.
More specifically, NHTSA has reported that a separation of the intermediate steering shaft assembly's upper universal joint can cause either a reduction in, or a complete loss of steering capability.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration first began probing the Sonata in August, but at the time suggested the incident was limited to just 16,300 sedans.
Now, Hyundai has announced the official intent to recall the Sonata over the issue being investigated by NHTSA - but affecting some 139,500 vehicles, far more than the original probe suggested. Some analysts have suggested that the move by Hyundai to preempt the conclusion of NHTSA's study was intended to ward off criticism for failing to take prompt action for safety issues.
"Hyundai's preemptive action is fast enough to avoid any criticism in handling safety issues," said Kim Byung-kuk, an analyst at Daishin Securities.
The latest recall by Hyundai marks the second for the 2011 model year Sonata, with the first claiming some 47,000 units for faulty door locks in February.
Hyundai has determined that the only vehicles included in the latest recall were built between December 11th and September 10, 2010

Complete loss of steering?!?!?!?
The Sonata is a great looking vehicle, but Hyundai better put quality on the road, otherwise they will go back to the their old reputation of building tastic quality vehicles.
Two recalls on your brand new model is more than plenty, Hyundai. Nip this one in the bud!
