However, I'm sure Honda has something in the can for when the global recession is over and more people can afford to have a second or third car. All Honda is doing is sticking to what will get them through the recession....i.e. Fits, Civics, and Accords.

It's a shame that Honda/Acura won't have any fun RWD cars anymore, but hopefully they'll rectify that situation soon (2015??)

at soon being 4 years away for Honda. I'd be more inclined to say 4 years +3 years for when they change their decisions mid project design.

What a shame ... great little car. Too bad I won't be able to own one before its production run. (unless I win the lottery ...)

Depends on how you look at it...from a buyer's perspective, it's great. And in my opinion, about time. Maybe I'm off my rocker, but I think you should be able to get a good used car in decent shape for less than $10k, especially if it's as old as an AP1. You should be able to find fun for less than $10k, not just Civics.

Still, sad to see the S2K go.

Wow they only sold ~2500 in 08? The 08/09 models with the newer wheels will maintain somewhat of a premium in the resale market just due to low numbers. Think about how sought after the 94/95 MR2 Turbos are in North America after they added the Ferrari-style tail lamps...

If anyone is in the market for a new S2000 they should get it now. They're going for around $29k here. This time next year when there are only a few new S2000s left, dealers are going to be jacking up the prices just like they did with the last of the RSX Type-S.

i believe the only changes from 06-09 are the rims, some small suspension changes and the instrument panel so there isn't a huge benefit from buying 08-09 vs. 06-07. and 06-07 rims look better than 08-09 imho.

Post Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition

Press release...

Honda has announced that the Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition will go on sale from March 2009 in Europe. This limited edition has been produced to mark the end of production for the award winning sports car.

The Ultimate Edition retains its highly acclaimed 2.0 litre 9000 rpm VTEC engine and combines it with a Grand Prix White body and graphite coloured alloy wheels. The shade of the paint evokes the colour first used on Honda's 1964 F1 car and many sporting models since. The exterior colour combination with the dark metal alloy wheels and unique black S2000 badging gives a fresh look to the timeless shape of the roadster body.

The white exterior will be matched with a red leather interior and complimented by unique red colouring for stitching on the gear lever gaiter. Ultimate Editions will be marked out by their unique numbered plaques on the kickplates, denoting their position in the series.

The 2-seater sports car may now be almost 10-years old, but its 240PS 2-litre is still one of the highest output per litre and highest revving engines ever made. In recognition of its incredible power output, the Honda S2000's engine has won the International Engine of the Year category for 1.8 to 2.2 litre engines five times in its lifetime.

As the name suggests, the Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition will be the last version before global production of the model ceases altogether at the end of June 2009. Since the introduction of the Honda S2000 in 1999 until the end of 2008, Honda has sold 110,673 units worldwide - 19,987 of those in Europe.

The first viewing of the Ultimate Edition will be the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show starting with the press day on the 3rd March.

does championship white=gran prix white?

Either way, there's something so right about Honda's in clean white w/ red accents. If there is any color combo that suits hondas, its that.

Beautiful.

In Europe, the S2000 never had the F22C (2.2L, 8200rpm redline). They've always had the F20C (2.0L 9000rpm redline). In Japan, they didn't get the F22C until MY06. North America is the only place that has had the F22C since MY04.

Other than the updated gear ratios to match the engine, all of the other changes made in MY04 and MY06 are available in the European and Japanese model S2000s like the updated exterior/interior (although looking at the picture in the Ultimate Edition, the cluster is still the old MY04-MY05 version).

Grand Prix White is the white that has always been available on USDM S2000s, its not the same as Championship White. Not sure why they didn't use Championship White on this "Ultimate Edition".

It's real sad that the NSX didn't die the same way with so much fanfare as the S2000.

wow. That is exactly how I would make an S2000. White with red interior, hardtop, graphite color wheels, and black emblems.

I think Championship White is reserved for Type R models?

I wouldn't go that far. I love the S2000 but IMO torque > no torque.
