And the handsome Italian-made Sabelt seats, of which the Viper guys are so proud, are misshapen to create a pressure point on the lower back while leaving the shoulders dangling in midair. Possibly, they are revenge for the American invasion of Anzio. Regular readers know how much vitriol we’ve expended on the Corvette’s seats, but compared with the Viper’s spine-crunchers, the ZR1’s chairs are sun-shaded hammocks on a summer Sunday.

In case anyone forgot, the Aventador has cylinder deactivation as well - it runs as an inline-6 at low speeds. And you don't hear anyone complaining about that, at least I don't. This really has more to do with building somewhat "responsible" vehicles for the future, than anything else.

Five reasons the new Corvette will stay an old man's car

The new Corvette Stingray has made its debut at the Detroit auto show, and there's little doubt it's going to thrill leagues of current Corvette aficionados. But Chevrolet has hinted it wants to broaden the Vette's appeal beyond its core Baby Boomer buyers, now in their 60s. GM design head Ed Welburn stated the Stingray aims for “a bit of a shift to appeal to younger customers,” according to Automotive News.
According to market research firm Strategic Vision, the average Corvette buyer is 59 years old. That means the “younger customers” Chevrolet is targeting are members of Generation X, born from about 1960-80. Big differences exist between the Vette's current core audience of Baby Boomers and the slacker generation (of which your author is a member), including these five significant hurdles that stand in the way of the Corvette's demographic downward drive.
Ghosts of Corvettes past
As good as the new Corvette is, Chevy's got skeletons in the closet that many of us Gen Xers remember all too well. Consider that drivers in their 40s and early 50s came of automotive age from the mid-1970s through the mid-1980s -- exactly the time the Corvette was huffing 200 or so horsepower through a long-in-the-tooth Mako Shark body. It wasn't an object of lust for many of us -- exotics like the Lamborghini Countach, Porsche 911 Turbo and Ferrari 308 were what stirred the soul, not the paunchy next-door neighbor's two-tone '78 C3.
We still have kids at home
Getting married and having kids happened a lot later for those in Generation X. Many put off child-raising until their mid-30s, meaning those parents won't be empty-nesters until their mid-50s (at the earliest). What good is a two-seat sports car to someone who has to haul three or four people around regularly…and pay tuition, all while hiding the keys from irresponsible hands? For the same money, an Audi S4 or even a Cadillac CTS-V makes more sense.
It'll still be too expensive...

I'd take one, but I'm Gen Y, probably the target income they are looking at though. No kids and this could be a reality for a MY 16-17

I agree with you guys-the story is worthless.
I've always liked Corvettes, but not enough to buy one. This one I'm seriously considering.

Hey, the comments to the article are pretty good too.
Nah-- still have kids at home (I'm probably in the Audi S7 demographic) and can't afford the C7, since I'm financially in the used Camry demographic.

Someone is already making a C7 rear end with round tail lights.....

After we stopped face-palming and shaking our heads in disbelief, we searched the Italian forum as best we could (without actually being able to read Italian), and couldn’t find the original ad or forum post. All we can say is that we hope this really is just some kind of a bad joke, and that nothing like this actually makes production. Additionally, we’ll throw in our advice to anyone who might consider doing something like this to a C7 once they got their hands on one: Just buy a C6. You’ll save yourself both a good bit of cash a ton of grief from other Corvette fans who won’t be too impressed with your retro body kit.
Hey, nostalgia is fine – as long as wallowing in it doesn’t keep you from moving forward.

We get it. The C7 Corvette is a pretty drastic departure from the C6, which was a very nice design in its own right. But is that really any reason to go and get all weepy and mopey about how different the C7 is from what’s considered “traditional” Corvette styling?
We certainly hope that nostalgia doesn’t get the best of future C7 owners, because the consequences could be pretty ugly. Our buds over at GM Authority recently found this ad posted on an Italian Corvette forum for a C7 rear body kit. As you can see it is meant to “correct” the C7’s more angular taillights to the more expected round taillights on the C6.After we stopped face-palming and shaking our heads in disbelief, we searched the Italian forum as best we could (without actually being able to read Italian), and couldn’t find the original ad or forum post. I know! It's like, "Damn people, get over yourself. Here's the car-if you don't like it, shut up already. You look like idiots bitching about it".

I think the rear end will grow on people, or they'll do something like this & replace it.
It's slowly growing on me, not that I'm in the demographic that'll be buying one, 27 & broke.

Hardcore fans will always exist, especially around cult-classics like the Corvette. I will still own one, because it appeals to my sense of styling in a car. Sharp angles, and long lines (like our TL).
Just think, wayyyyyy back when, aircraft had to fight tooth and nail to earn a rank among the warfighters and travel methods.
I'll buy one. Or ten.
All in white.

Hot.
I Wish people would stop saying it has camaro tailights. The Vetts are much different and far better looking.

No joke-the new Corvette has Camaro tails.

Because it doesn't matter.
For those who insist on refraining from actually looking at the world as a whole:
3 different cars, 3 different driving experiences, same styling, design and shared components.
The Vette shares a similar tail to the Camaro, the front end of a Ferrari California GT and the rakes of a McLaren. Would you call this car by any of those names? No, it's a damn Vette. A good looking one too. Get over it.
