BMW: Chris Bangle news **Speculation on Departure (page 6)**

I read that too and I hope it's true. Maybe he'll go work for Toyota helping create even uglier new Lexus' that tasteful people like Gilbo will tell us look so much better than our Acuras.

BTW -- who is the "Chris Bangle" of Nissan? The new G35 coupe/sedan along with the upcoming Fuga have been big changes for the company and (IMO) look pretty damn good (on the outside, at least). Is there a lead designer responsible, or is it more of a team effort?

You really are in your own private Idaho, dude. What a complete waste of human resources you are.

Really nothing, Dom (unless something happens about the "Twilight Zone" thing, which would be a totally different story).
It's just that this guy decided that he doesn't like me (and a few other people too), and it was the case from the word go. His very first post, about a month ago, was a meaningless flame at me. I figured what the heck, what are you gonna do. But it's nothing, AFAIC.

It's about time that Bangle is outa there! Every thing he beat with the Bangle stick is U-G-L-Y. Especially what he did with the trunk lines in the rear. I feel sorry for the Beemer folks who will need years to get their products back to looking anything like their integrated, tailored-looking past. It is astounding that they let him get away with his horrible designs this long. History will never forgive him.

Intrigue by Design: Euro-design churn swirls around Pininfarina, BMW
Intrigue by Design: Euro-design churn swirls around Pininfarina, BMW - - By AUTOWEEK
In other hot Euro-designer news, reports are surfacing that soon after the Geneva motor show launch of the BMW 1 Series, Chris Bangle will move on after 11 years as BMW design maestro. But rather than leaving, Bangle reportedly will move up a spot to be in charge of design for all of BMW, Rolls-Royce and Mini. If that occurs, someone will be hired to take Bangle’s spot in BMW design, and many of the rustlings stem directly from the prospect of the choice BMW design post being available. So far, BMW declines comment.

I dunno...
I, for one, think that Bangle's designs are very eye catching.
Certainly bold and aggressive; thus naturally befitting for BMW.
I think that BMW would have be worse off without Bangle due to it's stagnant, out-dated designs. His designs are just so unique and, whether you like them or not, you must admit that they draw your attention (which, for the majority of people, is a key determing factor in car purchases*).
To me, his designs are just so clean, so sculpted, so powerful (every one of them)...I dig it. I also have to give him points for originality. His headlight designs are truly original sculptures...perhaps he's just too far ahead of his time...
Sad to see him go if this is true...but I'm sure his services would be appreciated elsewhere <cough>Honda<cough>
.
*Footnote: I think the majority of the market that purchases luxury autos are really just concerned about looks, image, and what not. But of course there are those, like us, that care about the overall package, especially performance in every aspect.

his latest designs look like crap. eye-catching is another word for "look at that thing, it's so ugly"

That means that he will make the final calls on design for not only BMW but BMW Group. Totally the contrary of what you're hoping for.

Maybe he'll just spontaneously combust.
That would be nice.
A little pile of dust formerly known as Bangle.

Rumor is that Bangle is out at BMW ... so he can become in charge of design for all of BMW, Rolls-Royce and Mini. From http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content...._code=04542778 :

Let's be honest here. If the cars were not BMWs, NO ONE would buy them. When your Brand is as strong as BMW, you can take a risk. Clearly it's not previous BMW owners who are buying the new cars, it's a bunch of new people to the brand who know jack shit about BMW. THey just want the badge.
Quite frankly, badge the Aztek a BMW and watch people buy it in droves.

People still buy the g35 sedan and i think its ugly all around.
LEAVE THE E46 ALONE!!! The new styling still hasn't caught on to me. I must say I have seen quite a few new 5s recently in Atlanta.

This guy is just another example of the people who read a couple of magazines, absorb the ideas, and are then unconsciously affected such that they actually think they themselves came up with the knucklehead ideas. His words are virtually a word-for-word copy of some magazine articles on Chris Bangle.
