Hahaha GM is finally getting his coupe. Congrats man.

Hey what do they call the M version of the 1 series in Europe? Is there an M version of the 1 series in Europe?

No M verison in europe...

Model choices include the 130i model, with a 265 horsepower inline-six and a zero to 62 mph time of 6.0 seconds; the 120i with a 170 horsepower four-cylinder engine and a zero to 62 mph time of 7.7 seconds; the 118i with a 143 horsepower four-cylinder engine and a zero to 62 mph time of 8.7 seconds; the 120d with a 177 horsepower common-rail diesel engine and a zero to 62 mph time of 7.5 seconds; and the 118d with a 143 horsepower common-rail diesel engine and a zero to 62 mph time of 8.9 seconds.
But the 135i is very much like the old Mcoupe... (looks and hp wise).

I can see the marketing line now: You too can afford to buy a BMW under $30K.
Who would cross-shop a two door with a four door?

I don't care for this baby bimmer. The rear end looks quite odd.

I like it better than the wagon/hatchback version that seemed to be the only available body.

Big crosshairs on Subies and Evo's! But only if the upgrade/modding potential is there. Before others here keep spouting off on the design, if you look carefully at the first pic, you will notice the extra padding/covers on the front and rear that we typically see in spy shots.

First, BMW, won't re-use the M1 name...

So they might call it a M2 if anything....

But the 135i is probably as close to a M as there is... It has the same motor as the 335i... but will weigh 400-500 lbs lighter (3571 for the 335i, the 1 series is under 3000lbs, but will be probably be around 3100 with the 335i's motor in it)...

I'd settle for a 118 or 120... but the 130 and 135 will be interesting to see in USDM trim...

I thought that they had been aiming to use even numbers for 2 door cars and odds for 4 doors for a while anyway.

I'm happy that they are gonna make a small rwd 2 door coupe again. The 3 serries is just too big to fill that role anymore. I do wish it was more of a 2002 throwback though.

I don't like the spy shots of the 1 series coupe, but the 2 door hatch doesn't look bad. I wish that BMW would offer the 4 door 1 series hatch here in the states. I saw a 1 series 4 door hatch here a while back with Mexico plates, and I like it.
Too bad whatever BMW brings over here as the 1 series is probably going to start at or over $30k. I would be very surprised (and happy) if it started anywhere significantly below $30k.

Those CGs from a couple of years ago look way better than this.

This looks like a modern Karman Ghia without the flair.

I didn't think I'd like the 1 series until I saw it in person in the Philippines last week.

Also happened to snap a picture of a Honda City. Hadn't heard of those before.

I'm sure you will, but for how much? A Mazda MPS 3 5 door goes for on the high side around 23k. A Bmw 1-series 5-door with a 4-cylinder enginer found in the mini cooper base, whats that worth about 25k? Sounds about right, 118hp bmw style.

I actually saw a black 1-series hatch here in PHX. Idk, wasn't impressed, but after trying to stuff a 12" sub in my car the other day I can see the benefits...........

Jesal, that looks to be a pretty close to production ready for a test mule... Hmmm.. a bimmer coupe for cheap bastards

Leftlane news story here:

http://www.leftlanenews.com/spied-bm...ies-coupe.html

Spy photographers have snapped two new images of BMW's forthcoming 1-Series coupe. This time, a production-ready version of the car was spotted by an amateur photographer during photo shoot. Our previous set of eight spy shots showed a prototype with significant disguise.

The "garbage bag and tape dressing" was just temporary — it was there to hide the details and name badges up until the lighting was perfected – and then it would be quickly removed and beauty shots would be taken.

Although though these shots aren't as clear and close as we’d like, they show — for the very first time — details surrounding the c-pillar and the rear quarter window.

But unfortunately the camera crew involved with this BMW brochure shoot is giving professional photographers everywhere a bad rap: The amateur who shot these, armed with only a small point-and-shoot, was forced to lock himself in his automobile as one of the production crew members started to — as he described it — violently pound on the man's car — both on the sheetmetal and glass!

Engine options for the stylish 1-Series Coupe have yet to be confirmed, but BMW officials have said they do not plan to offer a four-cylinder engine in America, although they will be available in European markets. Insiders are expecting a version of the magnesium/aluminium 3.0-liter six-cylinder that is currently found in the 130i hatch.

There is also a strong possibility the 3.0-liter turbo-charged six from the 335i coupe and sedan could find its way into an M version of the 1-series Coupe.

Among driving enthusiasts, there is strong sentiment that the 3-series Coupe has grown too large and luxurious to be a true sports coupe. Many of them long for a smaller, simpler car with the driving dynamics BMW has become known for. The 1-series coupe could possibly deliver that.
I liked some of the comments in the disussion section... while this might not be a homage to the old 2002 series, it just might be the next manifestation of the e30...

I'm not sure, but it's not Imola red, but it might be Merlot Red Metallic, Barbera Red Metallic, or Barrique Metallic.

I'm still waiting for Acura to come up with a follow up for the discontinued CL, and I've been waiting since June 03

I'm seriously thinking that a 1 series coupe might be my next vehicle, but I'll have to wait to see what the official specs are. My thoughts mimic something someone posted on edmunds (yeah, I was googling for more 1 series info):

If it's sub 3000 lbs I'd sell off whatever car I had to get it. Sub 3200 lbs, I'll find a way eventually to ditch a current car for it. Sub 3400 lbs, I'll wonder why they bothered.

Post BMW: M1 (based on BMW 1-series) news **BMW-M1 and name speculation (page 1)**

WYHI...?

From Leftlanenews...

BMW plans to offer a high-performance version of its U.S.-bound 1-Series coupe called the M1, according to a new report by Germany's AutoBild magazine. The car would come equipped with the same motor used in the E46 M3 and the new Z4M, the report says.

The engine would deliver 343 horsepower and provide a zero to 62 mph time of 5.2 seconds.

With the 1-Series coupe's design all but fully revealed by recent spy photos, it's easy to guess how an M1 might look. AutoBild's illustration shows typical "M" treatments throughout, minus an expensive carbon roof.
