Maybe they'll come up with a real coupe under the Honda badge (CRZ or S2k replacement), but Acura's got nothing for me to buy right now...

that interior is amazing. Hope it makes it to production. Finally Acura gets it.

Go Big Blue!
Also, I'll go out on a limb and predict those blue accent lights are not going to be in production

That long (FWD) front over-hang really kills the sporty design when you compare side profiles.
#616
the BMW's proportions are just right. Like I said, the BMW is far more interesting to look at, visible rear handle and all.

That interior is SLAMMING! I love, love love it. The exterior, OTOH, just doesn't do it for me. Sigh. Come on, Acura......
But we FINALLY get a 6-speed tranny. Put it in the RL, STAT!

it's a shame cause that's really the best part about the interior. the leather and the off white color. don't care if it's a pain to keep clean it's awesome!

Midnight Marauder
This has pretty much been the problem with EVERY single one of the Acura's since the time the 1st Gen TL went away. But hey you can only do so much with a transverse FWD/AWD setup. The engine has to go somewhere.

Likes it dirty
I like it. Like everyone else id rather have seen a 2 door coupe, with my CL on the way out the door i would hope for suitable replacement a few years down the line.
That being said, one day when i have little Ricepuddins running around i may look into it!

I really like this! Now, I think it would be even better if it were lower overall, but as it is, I think it is already very nice looking! In fact, I think that it's better looking than the X6, which is 5 inches taller. IMHO, that X6 looks too humongous in reality. This lower height will make the ZDX much sleeker and more attractive.

Safety Car
X6 is a fantastic design, but hard to justify the price tag for lack of function the car offers. it is a nice piece of art on wheels, and is fun to own if you have 60k to spare. however, in this economy, most ppl you see driving it are over-extended idiots that cant even afford it. and those that have enough money to piss away on a useless 60k car are too smart to buy it.
that said, the ZDX may improve the image of acura, but may not offset the sales to the desired level. the ZDX directly targets those that care about image to such an extent that they can overlook all other negative factors of the car's practicality.
the outcome - SOME early 300something buyers, and lots of billboards. enough to lift acura out of the ditch? no.

I actually like it. Not my first choice if I were in the market for a crossover...but, still...looks nice!

the instrument pod looks exactly like the TL's - remember the hidden warning lights an acurzine mod noticed in his review of the TL? one was a warning light for the turning headlamps (road following) - that must be for use in the ZDX

It's much better than i anticipated, gotta say that for sure.
Can someone photoshop it in black?
I honestly believe with some Ronjons, and the TL Aspec/Sport KIT, and body coloured grill (black grill with black), this will look simply AMAZING!!!
It looks good now, but i think the full potential will come with 20" OR 21" Ronjons, and the sport kit. Maybe lowered an inch with the rims, but not sure.
If someones good, can they try the kit on here, i think it'll look amazing (either Black or Silver)

I think the interior is hot, but I can't get past the nose . . . . . big surprise. I will have to see the car in person, but right now my vote goes to the X6. I am actually thinking of changing over to a crossover vehicle, so I will check out the X6, Q5 and the ZDX when it comes out.

I dunno why Honda has been so bad at hiding the front overhang on these FWD based vehicles. Look back at the 90's, they were also FWD cars, v6 engines were also offered (think of the Legends, and 94-97 Accords). Short front and rear overhang on a FWD car was one of the things that made those cars look great.
Now, look at the new line up, the new 2nd gen TSX, 4th gen TL, Accord, and now even a new CUV that is supposed to compete with x6? come on... it looks cheap and nothing close to a x6 competitor (mind you, I don't think the x6 is that great looking, even though it looks extremely mean) and those plain, huge, flat fender flares... looks like they're from Mazda
and it's supposed to compete with the 400hp v8 x6? really? with a v6? Looks more like a CX9 competitor to me

Who besides the folks on the internet really care about front overhang anyway? Everyone I meet cares about the price, performance, fuel economy and if baby seats fit comfortably.
(Also, I believe this should compete with the 6 cylinder X6 and not the 8)

eh it's alright, not as bad as i thought it would be. i just think though those suicide like doors are odd on an suv/cuv. i mean i guess i am used to seeing door handles on the rear doors too. the styling though still doesn't seem to me like it should exceed $45K.
i really want to see how the woman looks like who designed this ZDX. is she hot?

The old legends used longitudinal engine mounting and this placed the engine behind the front wheel centerline. This had compromises in packaging so it was abandoned in favor of the current transverse engines.

Longer overhangs are fine, as long as the rear overhang matches also somewhat..... it looks awkward otherwise. Believe it or not while I love Ferraris and the way they look, usually their profiles look funny because they tend to have a huge front and short rear.
and personally I loved the way the 2G Legends looked.... actually I still do. Short front, longer rear overhang.

Holy ...! I just noticed this thread.
First impression: What da ...? Acura dun lost their minds. Talk about sinking the Acura brand. Why is Acura suddenly stuck on designing nothing but strange-looking spaceships?

BUT then the 'enthusiast' drives away in his/her FWD automatic sedan. Sorry, but an enthusiast would drive a proper manual not an automatic. Oh, there are excuses for why they have an automatic, but guess what? I have traffic too, and guess what, I got my wife to drive a stick. But that's still OK. I can live with this hypocrisy.
The thing is, that most of this stuff has little to do with how well the car sells. As I mentioned, in the 'real' world, fuel economy, price, and trunk space are what really matters to buyers. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for "bench racing" but hearing the same thing over and over again is pointless. But hey, thanks for sharing your opinion on overhangs and proportions (front vs. rear), it sheds some light on possible reasons why some are fixated on it. I hope I've shared some possible reasons why they moved away from longitudinal engines.

LOL, I could say the same about you. (the following is not directed solely at you) In general, people here tend to focus on one or two things at the exclusion of all else. Front overhangs, rim size and RWD all in the name of being an 'enthusiast.'

I kinda figured that was why they moved away from the longitudinal arrangement, I don't necessarily approve of it, but it definitely makes sense on their part.
I'd like to think that I have a pretty good idea generally of what would work on the sales side of it.... I take into account all those things when I'm helping a family member buy a car. Its about what they want, not me.... and everyone I've helped has been very happy with their choices thus far.
.....but then again you're right, I don't drive a FWD automatic sedan
