Seriously, are the decision makers at Acura blind?! Who thought that new front end was a good idea?

I just don't get it. There are so many great designs in the automotive world and Honda/Acura can't poach one person from any of the other major brands?

Went to to the auto show last week in DC and didn't even look in the direction of the Acura display. Deep down I was hoping something with even a semblance of worthiness would come with the MMC. Once again Acura is consistent with this garbage.

From that AutoNews link: "An A-Spec trim package that includes wheels, rear lip spoiler and unique front and rear bumper treatments also will be offered, though it won't come with any significant powertrain upgrades". "Shame... Shame... Shame... Shame..." (GoT ref) Peace, Acura.

The largest race engine manufacturer in the world can't do a tune for performance to add 20 or 30 hp. COME ON HONDA

Acura details plans to update TLX

February 6, 2017

NEW ORLEANS -- Acura's midsize TLX sedan will use an upcoming refresh to visually distinguish the four-cylinder and six-cylinder models and will add an enthusiast-oriented A-Spec model.

That's according to multiple dealers in attendance at Acura's make meeting at the NADA convention. The news confirms speculation that arose earlier when spy shots of the face-lifted TLX being filmed for advertising were published.

Changes to the TLX and an advertising effort that's only now gaining momentum have Acura executives hopeful that the brand could see a modest sales increase in 2017, after an 8.9 percent decline in 2016.

Dealers praised Acura General Manager Jon Ikeda for sticking to the turnaround strategy he outlined when he took over in the summer of 2015. They also praised Honda executives for setting a conservative sales goal in 2017, one that dealers are optimistic that they can hit. Acura will share additional details of its plans during February dealer meetings in Dallas and Miami.

The TLX refresh should help that nameplate, whose sales dropped 21 percent in 2016 to 37,156 vehicles. The update is expected to be unveiled this spring as a 2018 model. The base four-cylinder model and the optional V-6 will carry over, though now there will be more external styling cues to set them apart.

An A-Spec trim package that includes wheels, rear lip spoiler and unique front and rear bumper treatments also will be offered, though it won't come with any significant powertrain upgrades.

Acura's entry-level ILX remains a particular concern to dealers.
It's in a crowded segment full of European marques aggressively courting buyers with generous incentives. Sales of the ILX dropped 21 percent in 2016 to 14,597 cars.
1. Acura has no idea what enthusiasts want. An A-Spec model (wheels, rear lip spoiler, and unique front and rear bumper treatments) with no significant powertrain upgrades is NOT want enthusiasts want.

2. I wonder what their conservative TLX sales goal for 2017 is, 30,000? 35,000? I'd be surprised if it was higher than 35K considering they only sold 37,156 in 2016... down from 47,080 in 2015.

3. The ILX is "a particular concern to dealers." Ok. So, what about the RLX? Not one single mention of the RLX.

I know now this hurts, but... Kias are no longer disposable cars. Whatsoever.

You're entitled to your own opinion... But suffice to say Kia isn't going anywhere and they keep putting good cars out, gen after gen.

Yea, and the most annoying part,
and will add an enthusiast-oriented A-Spec model.
Then goes on to add....

Seriously.. Its that kind of thrill. Looks sporty and quick till driven.

Id take the Kia Stinger over anything (sans NSX) that Acura has to offer. RWD, Great Looks, Quality/reliability on par with anything Acura has to offer these days, TT V6 365hp (and you know a tune will be available in short time that pushes that over the 400+ mark)

Fuck. Yes.

That's exactly what I mean, fsttyms.

If a 365hp, TT V6, RWD car with sexy styling is considered disposable... Shiiiiiiiet ... What does that make Acura?

Its you, you arent looking at the car company they have become in the past few years, you are looking at the OLD version of them. They have been completely revamped, just like Hyundai. They are still growing into what they want to become but they are NOT the kia of the past! The Same cant be said for Acura, they are not the brand of yesteryear!

I dunno, I see old Kia's everywhere I go. There are so many old Kias around, I feel like the company should rebrand or revamp their image. Same with Hyundai. You can see one POS Kia and then a beautiful modern car with the same logo.

yes, they're everywhere... but i still don't see 10 year old kias around. new ones... plenty. doesn't mean they're any good.
again, a co-worker bought one for that exact same reason... that they are disposable cars. 5years or so and trades it in for a new one. peace of mind and doesn't want to deal with issues.

seriously, Ray?

Shiiiiiiet, my 2011 is still going strong, getting close to 100k miles. And it even has a turbo engine, and nope, hasn't blown yet! You should take a look at the reliability ratings and realize that H/K are ahead of Acura

lol... 30k cars are the new disposable cars. What does that make Acura?

In fact that we're even bringing in any Kia discussions in this thread tells you how bad the Acura brand has become.

true... end thread.

it's just something i have with KIA... kind of like i have with Ford. not saying they're crappy, just my perspective, and not saying i'm right either.
and yes, acura is going downhill.

total side note: my co-workers two kids want to be dropped off a block away from school after he traded in his 2014 charger rt for a 2016 kia optima.
kids these days.

Neither is pretty, but at least there is some cohesion in the Kia. The Acura with the mismatched lights and grille just don't scream precision.

too much going on with that face. and those hood vents derailed what could have been a nice looking car. looks too ricer, and trying too hard.
plus they try to copy every auto maker out there into one vehicle. looks like a bimmer, audi, ford, subbie, scion all into one. and that crappy KIA logo says it all.
just me though.

you're right. how dare a turbo vehicle have functional hood vents!? the blasphemy!!

Also, the black accents are waaaaay more pronounced on a white car. Any other color and it wouldn't stand out as much.

But sure, let's say Acura's Dave Marek is a waaaaay better designer than the one Kia pinched over from Audi. That guy doesn't know anything and designs horrendous looking vehicles, every day.

I don't like much my current car's grille, reminiscent of infamous so-2009 Acura' beak., I like it square, and design-wise, it is just more inline with the gen 3 or TSX 1. The front-end reminds me the stance of Audi A6 2012+. Only the logo is too huge, but an improvement overall.

You're saying the Kia is "inharmonious" compared to a completely over stretched and seemingly stapled on front grill the TLX now wears?

now I've heard it all!

man, your trolling is so hard. Tone it down a notch.

I guess the key difference is that the Stinger is a brand new design for a new generation of car that was first shown in 2011 (damn it's been 6 years already lol).

The TLX MMC on the other hand, well it's a MMC, and it sounds like the management forced the design team to implement the diamond grill ASAP.

I think the difference is that Acura dealers have gotten USED to not having a real flagship sedan. But an entry-level car that brings youth and excitement to the brand is essential, and something they used to have. Dealerships would love to be rolling twenty-somethings out with ILXs (or Integras, or whatever) like crazy, earning a nifty profit on each. They look around and see streets filled with 3-series, C-classes, A4s, and even butt-fugly ISes, and wonder why they can't have a car that appeals and sells to that segment of the market. The ILX looks okay, if a little bland, but the powertrain and customization options just aren't there to make it competitive.

All those cars you mentioned are not only bigger, but in a different market segment altogether, with various engine options.

the ILX is better to compared to.. Uh... I actually don't even know.

Actually, it's called a discussion, where it's considered normal to have both sides of the coin, especially when very valid statements are being made (yes, even if you don't like them... That doesn't make them any less true). I know you can't comprehend that. One day, old grasshopper. One day.
