But, at least the anger has...subsided in this thread. Man, talk about getting worked up about a car.

End of the day, if you love it...you love it. Does it matter what some of the "naysayers" think? I don't think so.

Heck, a heap of people think I drive a sea cucumber but, end of the day, I'm satisfied with my purchase. So...viva la variety?

Some people, especially noobs who probably just bought TLX come to this forum expect everyone here to sit in a circle and praise Acura like it is the best thing on the planet.

Maybe in TLX section but here they don't even know what hit them.

I was chatting with another friend who loves cars too and we wondered if Honda had a halo car...and say, pushed the envelope with regularity, if say, this iteration of the TLX would suddenly have more allure to the general public and increase sales...?

If you ask us...yeah. Is that an unfair observation?

AZ is getting too rich for me
I mean the price difference between a 4GC and 3 series isnt that big compared to the price gap between 6GC and 5 series.

435i GC starts at $45.8k while 335i sedan starts at $43.5k.

The 650i GC starts at $89.6k while the 550i sedan starts at $64.5k.

I've seen 2 so far. It looks much better in person. Not half bad really.

I never thought it looked ugly, just underwhelming considering what the prototype looked like. After seeing it in person, I looks exactly as I expected it to be based on the online pics. It's an attractive looking car - but no standout in the field. Also, at night, the new Acuras with the LED headlights are very nondescript. In your rearview mirror, all you see are the rows of LEDs on both headlights, but there aren't any surrounding accessory lighting. If not equipped with the foglights, it's not really a light show as you would think they would look like at night. I'm sure they do an exceptional job (I've been inside an Accord Touring with LED headlights at night) but from a design POV, just another 8/10 attempt from Honda/Acura.

you are bashing Acura.

but honestly, the bar was set so low by the 4G. it does not take much to look better.

While it looks good but it does not give me the "i have to have it" feeling when i saw it in person.
IMO "i have to have it" design is what Acura needed to bring back old customer, returning customer and new customers.
We can talk about engine, turbo or what not but most important factor is the exterior design.

but hey, at least it got me to go take a look at it in person. I wanted to stay away from 4G as far as possible when it came out.

I think it may help - but will a $150,000 NSX produced in low quantities drive people into the showrooms and then decide to buy a RLX or TLX? I don't know. Thats the theory behind having a halo car though...

If Honda pushed the envelope with the NSX, and then that technology consistently trickled down into the lower models - would that have more allure? I do think it would help.

I'd like to think the LF-A helped Lexus design better cars (the new IS and GS both handle better than their previous gens and reviews all seem to agree they are more engaging to drive - and presumably the new RC and RC-F will hopefully be engaging too). Kind of the opposite of what Lexus is known for.

Also the new IS has an LF-A like cluster which people seem to be attracted to.

I think this trickle down technology is what really helps - and perhaps there is a perception when there is a halo car and some of the features end up in their "normal" cars that the normal cars have that same sports car in their blood and make it more attractive.

I think the lights look a lot better than the 4G TL lights, which have halogen DRL, amber lights above the fog lights, fog lights, and then HID headlights. There's way too much going on.

I think the 2015 MDX looks very sexy in silver. The RLX needs work as it still has amber reflectors down low.

So as far as lighting for the TLX, I think they did it right. Finally they are starting to exude some notion of luxury.

Wanna Charge me $1900 for Halogen looking housing without projectors and without any real output improvement?

Umm, yeah, BMW's pricing, etc. on the LED headlights is pretty stupid. I don't get what they're thinking on that.

Reflector housing isn't always halogen. The CL had reflector xenons.

did you two misread? He didn't say they are halogen reflectors. He said they look like halogen reflectors but obviously they aren't because he even said they're LEDs...there's no need to correct him.

Just spotted a TLX for the first time. It was white. Looked pretty sleek in person.

It certainly needs bigger wheels and something to clean up the front end though.

Couldn't check out the inside since the driver was sitting in it the whole time.

But yes, it does resemble the look of 3G TL that I had back in the day.

My friend who is not a car enthusiast just said "that looks kinda like a Toyota Camry. Maybe it'll look better with darker colors? I honestly don't know why you are excited to see that".

Oh, I couldn't go. Started getting sick the day before the road trip... Wife killed it. Good thing she did though. I was literally dying.

I'll probably leave next Monday! This week is the last week at work anyway. Will update my CarTalk thread when I leave!

That headlight and front grille did bother me in person. Not surprised though.

I would very highly recommend blacking out that grille to whoever purchases the car.

Yikes. That's not a good impression. Byproduct of Acura's conservative design language. Well, it's not like anyone saw that coming

The non car-enthusiasts will be the majority that buy the TLX... that's only one person, but I'm interested in seeing what others say.

Also, yikes on your illness. Get better soon hyung!
