Wiring Door Speakers!
Wiring Door Speakers!
How can I run new speaker wire to the front doors? I haven't torn apart my car yet, but it seems nearly impossible to access the rubber boot. Anyone have instructions, or pictures? thanks.
I don't have specifics but a good trick is to attach the new wire to the existing wire and then pull out the old wiring, using it as a pull string. That way the new wire is installed in the same place the old wire was.

I just ran the cables for my amp and used a coat hanger in the same way to get undr the carpet of the center hump.
[B]I stand corrected. This weekend, i ran wire to the driver's front. Wow, that was a pain
But the passenger front is even worse. I'll let you know what I end up doing but here are some early tips:
drivers door.
push the boot into the door, then squeeze and pull it out. Do the same for the car side. Now run a small, stiff wire through as a guide wire (or use a guide wire). Start in the door side of the boot and push it through the car side of the boot. Keep the boot straight (its bent naturally). Now fish it into the car. I used a needle nose to grab the end and pull it through the boot and again in the car. Required the assistance of me lady to hold a flashlight.
Tape the large wire to the smaller guide wire inside the car. Keep it as flat and tight as possible. I used duct tape. You don't want to lose it and have to start over. Once its secure (you can't pull them apart) spray a little armor all on the large wire and thick taped section. go easy, i don't know that you want a ton inside the boot but a little won't hurt (and it'll look so perty ). Now pull it through and fish it into the door. The armorall will help get the boot back in place. Don't push it all the way in, just getthe end in and you'll feel it snap back into place.

Wiring through the boot in the front doors
weblog entry has full detail (no pics, sorry)
The jist of it is that the boots come off easily. Push them in, then squeeze and pull them out. For the driver's side, its easy and straight forward. On the passenger side, you'll need a piece of thin wire (the kind used to hang pictures) and a coat hanger, a flashlight, some armor all and a lot of patience. It wasn't so bad, once I got into it.
Shoot me a PM if you have any questions.

In addition to what Rusky said, try looking here.

Also, I couldn't get the wire through the boot without WD40. They say use soapy water but I was too lazy.
Do one section at a time. Run the wire through the boot first. Take one end and run it into the door. Take the other end and run it into the car interior (this part is tricky).
Small hands are required.
