Wire Radar detector directly to overhead lights? CL

Hey guys, a friend of mine spliced the overhead light socket wires on top of his rearview mirror and somehow wired it to his radar detector, you think its possible in my car to do the same thing, i'm gonna buy an extra power connector to fiddle with it. you think it can be done?

thanks for the input

what i did was get a mini add-a-circuit from autozone and tap into the windshield wiper fuse. i also got the hardwire kit for my radar and just attached the positive wire to the adda circuit and grounded the kit to an exisiting ground bolt near the fuse box. i then just ran the wire up to the rearview mirror for the radar.

i wouldnt want to splice anything in case it ever shorts out

I have had my V1 wired to the dome lights for years without any problems.

well all i did was cut it open and strip a small section of wires

then i didn't want to soder* (*sp) it to the metal pieces...
see the little meat pieces next to the hole for the bulb, that are fixed to the plastic..

so i just wedged the wire between the bulb ends and the metal pieces

if you don't want to cut off the extra cord make sure to feed it over the fitting...

then put everything back and your done

now to turn it on all i do is press the button

Your wiring looks unsafe and prone to shorting out that would take out the DL fuse. THat fuse is also probably the radio constant.

And your coil cord coming out like that looks kinda weak. Can you get a straight cord for your RD?

Are you telling us that this thing only works when your dome light is turned on?

Wouldn't the cover be a fire risk with an incandescent bulb?

I did that when I installed the hardwire kit in our '05 Ody. For my car, I ran the hardwire kit down to the cigarette lighter circuit and spliced it in.
