Question TV Tuner Antenna

I am just finishing getting my stuff materials together for my DVD/TV Tuner install on a 2004 Acura TL w/Navi.

I am having trouble finising an antenna for the TV Tuner (it doesn't come with one). I am looking for one that can possible mount in the corners of the back window or on the sides. I would rather not hang rabbit ears out the passenger side window

Any input would be appreciated.

What kind of antenna input does the unit have?

I have some extra kenwood diversity antennas that I could probably sell you.

Here's what I did for my Alpine TV Tuner Antenna's. The unit came with 2 of them that are kinda shaped in a "Y". I pulled the trunk lid lining out and also the covers for the 2 bars that hold the trunk lid on and ran the antenna wires with the rest of the wires (Tail lights etc.) on the drivers side bar. Then I double sided taped both antennas symetrically on each side of the trunk lid and spread the "Y" as big as I could. Put the trunk lid back on and the covers back on the bars and viala! you don't even know I have a TV tuner in there till I turn it on!

The reception is as great as it can get. I have an old school antenna on the side of my house (also have cable) and when sitting in my driveway, the car picks up more stations than the house will.

that's good info. couple questions:
- The antennas don't need power right ?
- so you can like shape and bend the antenna ?
- Is that Alpine antenna part of the tuner kit or separate ?

The DVD player just a regular Coax input (i think...it is coming in the mail tomorrow). The TV tuner was secondary to the DVD player (when I started this project), but now I kind of wish I got a little more into the TV Tuner. As far I know the diversity antennas have 4 inputs right?

Nice!
Can you get this antenna as an accessory? Is it a coax input?

Not sure if you can get it as an accessory. It's the Alpine TUE-T151 tuner. You might be able to get the antenna. It's not powered. The inputs are 1/8th" jacks if I remember correctly.

I finished (ok "rough" finished) my DVD installation...ran out of time on Sunday, didn't want to rush the final details.

The DVD picture is great, HOWEVER the TV reception sucks, even in my driveway. I bought a DVD player with a tuner (tuner is defintely second to the dvd). I am using just a regular old TV Antenna from an old TV. All I am looking for is one channel --the local news. I think the post above is the kind with 4 inputs...

you can use an adapter no ?

also you should get better reception with a real antenna (preferably amplified) than an "old TV antenna )

Yes it has 4 inputs I think. Can't remember, it's been a year since I looked under that seat. And you will get better reception with a real tv tuner antenna. Please don't tell me you have rabbit ears in your ride......and if you do, please post pics so we can all enjoy it.

Ok, Ok, it has been a while since I use a TV Antenna...so yes it was rabbit ears. And no they are not hanging out the window...just flopping around in the trunk. Can you get an adaptor to go from a 4 plug to a coaxial?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good one? I agree on the amplified, but cant seem to find one that is for 12V car adaption.

I Like the idea of the CJams since I will soon be taking apart the top of my trunk to put the camera in.

Pyle DV98. It works well, haven't mounted it yet. It doesn't like to be at 90 degrees so I don't know if I can mount it to the armrest. I like it because it plays burned dvds very well (I know some don't). Plus it was cheap

I think antenna mounting selection will also have to do with radio reception. I have the Alpine TV Tuner antennaes in my TSX. The shop first installed them on the front windshield, which was really distracting to me. I asked for them to be moved to the rear windshield, but eventually liked them out of view on the rear deck.

Now that they are on the rear deck I think it causes interference with my AM radio reception which I rely on for my local sports news and local news. I get a whining noise that increases the more I listen to a station. If I change stations, the interference isnt there. When it starts its a low tone interference and the programming can still be heard, eventually it gets louder and drowns out the programming.

Im going to move them to the trunk lid as CJams did.

I also placed my TV tuner unit under the drivers seat away from any other electronics. The only thng near it is the seat motor, but that only gets used evey once in a while for a short second. I think that helps my reception as well.

as far as overall reception goes. It comes in great if you're not moving or if your going under 15-20 mph. When driving 60 mph it comes in and out. Pretty much the same as if you were watching tv at home during a big wind storm. But it's perfect for tailgating at the games, riding the ferry, and when you're stuck in traffic or just parked. The other morning I was almost to the Narrows bridge in slow moving traffic watching the news and they showed the traffic report and showed the Narrows Bridge camera for the first time ever and I was almost close enough to watch myself drive by the camera. That would have been so cool! But I have been in traffic jams on I-5 and got to see the helicopter view of the back up and the reason it was backed up while watching the news. It helped me move in to the faster lane since I knew where the accident was.

The TV tuner comes in handy way more than a dvd player ever would/did.

I ordered a diversity tuner antenna, should have it today. I agree on the usefulness of the TV Tuner. I am only hoping to get my local news channel, which has a relatively strong signal in my area. The MAIN reason I did all of these mods is for the rear view camera & the Ipod (but you know how it is....the car is ripped apart, running wires and you say, what the hell...and put all the crap in . I am going to try and wire the antenna in the trunk lid when I hook the camera up.

Thanks to all of you for all your input on this thread!
