TSX head units

I had a quick question... I was looking into getting the XM radio for my '04 TSX but I don't want to use an external unit if I can avoid it so I was curious if it was possible to just swap in a head unit from an '05 or newer TSX. I know its probably more expensive and really I am just curious if its possible cause I was also looking at using one of those iSimple devices to hook up my iPod... thanks for your help.

I'll say this right now to get it out of the way: Anything is possible with enough time and money. Now that being said, you're going to want to look at the dashboard and its layout. If the head units are the same size and shape, there's a possibility that it will work.

If you get through that much, then you'll want to check and see how the speakers are powered from both factory head units. If your 04 runs the speakers off the head unit, but the 05 runs through an amp, then you're going to need that amp, along with all the wiring goodies to hook it up, which will likely turn into more of a bear than it's worth. If they're both run the same way, then you're again looking good.

Now, I have no idea if this will work, but those are the steps I would take to check it out. I'm a CL guy myself.

Another option for you would just be an aftermarket head unit...

Yes, you can install an 05 HU in the 04, you will still need the XM receiver since XM is an external system.

So all I need is the HU from an '05+ and the XM receiver from the car or can an aftermarket one work? Also is it a direct plug and play? no touching of the harness or anything? Thanks for your help and information.

You will need the XM receiver, harness and the antenna from the donor car. The easiest route is to drop in the 05 HU and hook up you external XM via the AUX port. I’m not sure if there are any aftermarket XM integration kits for the TSX (wouldn’t think so).
