NC stands for "Normally Closed" and NO is "Normally Open." Is this a momentary-action pushbutton switch, like for a fog light relay? Whatever is wired to NC will be on until the switch is pushed, then it will go off. Whatever is wired to the NO will be off until the switch is pushed, then go on. For a light relay you wire it to NO.

As I look at this again I realize I should explain more. As drawn, the diagram shows the circuit is complete through C1 to NC1. When you push the button the circuit will be complete from C1 to NO1. So if this switch is to control a relay you connect +12 (Hot) wire to C1 and NO1 goes to the coil in the relay. The X in a circle represents the light bulb in the switch and you wire that to the secondary contacts in the relay so that it lights when the relay is "on". Make sense? Happy to help, any more questions just ask.
