subs

Alright guys, I 've tried to do the research on subs and amps as well as asking everyone who's breathing's opinion; I want 2 10's and I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up with MTX 5500 subs and some TA3401-44 amp (whihc might be wrong), but I'm not sure if that's what I should really get. Each amp only has 300 rms which is a little over 1/2 of the alpine type r's I've also been looking at...any adivce on the subs and amp? What brand is better, since there's honestly very little on MTX. Thanks for anything!

Why are you looking at the MTX stuff?

YOu are looking at specs, which is of limited usefulness.

What budget are you looking to spend, what have you had before, and what music do you play the most?

I wouldn't reccomend MTX stuff there are many other more lucrative brands that will give you more bump for your buck, not to mention better quality.

how much would those subs cost you?

these are pretty good bang for the buck. and seem to be a good match to your power.
http://www.edesignaudio.com/product....pid=14&cur=USD

probably others (but at 4am, i can't think rite now), i'd suggest to keep looking around.

also it might help to know, are you looking to be as LOUD as possible, or more of a sound quality set up?

I'm figuring I'll end up spending about $1000 but see my main problem is that I listen to everything, literally everything...so that's not very helpful. I've gone to a bunch of caaudio places in Charlotte and they all, of course, tell me different things. I bought a Rockford amp but I'm taking it back today because I had one guy tell me " we stopped carrying Fosgate for a reason" so that's goin' back. I want it to be fairly loud and have good sound clarity as well.

I'd say JL and Alpine, they will cost you more but I love my set up in my TSX 10" W7 500/1 JL. Bumps. I heard Elemental Designs has some sick speakers also.

I've always had good luck with Image Dynamics, the IDMax is a serious sub and the IDQ v2 is a great SQ sub.

The guy @ Freeman's (an audio shop in Charlotte) told me to get a JL amp and 12' w1 installed for about $900. A friend of mine said he'd go shopping with me; he wants me to get a w7 with a JL amp or alpine type s's all of which he cal install...whatcha think?

get what you want.
you ever hear the 5500's because you wil get sick of them its not enough bass if thast what your looking for.
i own 2 12 mtx 9500's and those are a killa. Jl are expensive compaed to mtx.
i dont know why alot of people dont like mtx. but in my case they were the perfect ones for me. i wasent goin to put 2 w7's in my car for 600 bucks each. plus amp plus box. the 5500's are good , make sure you get them in the mtx sledghammer box because that box is made specifically for those subs.

A JL amp and a JL W1 for $900 is a rip off. If you are going to go with a JL W7 I would reccomend an OZ Audio Matrix Elite 12'' it will outpound a JLW7 any day of the week I market them at $300.00 a piece. Let's put it this way I am a car audio wholesaler and I have two of those in my car. However to each his own. I'm not downing JL its just too overpriced for what you get.

i have 2 4yr old type r 12 inch subs. they are dual 4 ohm i believe and they are running around 1000 watts rms at 1 ohm. they match the music pretty well in a sealed box. alot of time i have to change the gain to match what im listening. but overal they are pretty good subs. the new type rs are really nice new design. the type s now is what the type r's were last year.

I sat in a car with mtx's today just the simple 10' 5500 and almost threw up because my body isn't used to those type of convulsions I suppose. Honestly, I just want it to be louder and sound better; I'm only looking to spend about $1000 so I think I'm going to go with 2 12' JLw1's and a JL amp which should end up being around $900.

W7 is a OK sounding sub. The price is REDICULOUS. That sub isn't worth half that amount. I will second that Image Dynamics specializes in SQ and SQL. For $600 you could get 2 IDMAX 10s and it would sound more accurate, louder, and would probly last longer. As for an amp ... I believe those subs are 600w rms. I would get a nice 1200w rms amp. Not JL. Try something A/B class perhaps. Fact is, if your budgeted STAY AWAY FROM JL. Check out www.adireaudio.com as well. Hit me up if you have any questions.

Since you listen to a variety of musics the best set up for you would be a JL 500/1 and 1 (sealed) JL 12 W6. The W6 will give you the crisp response with techno and rock and still play low for hip hop and other low freq music. The 500/1 will pwr this sub with no problem.

Have you ever listened to Oz Audio subs? I love how everyone runs to JL and humps them just because of the name. Ya they sound good but not that good, especially when there are competition brands out there that sound much better, IdMax, Diamond, OZ Audio, Massive etc.

I don't even carry JL anymore after I had six amps arrive D.O.A. (dead on arrival)last year.

I was selling Oz Audio subs while you were riding a tricycle. They're an OK second-tier sub. But "competition"?

Who competes in IASCA with Oz? Or Massive? Or Diamond for that matter?

So do you own a shop? And you decided that you weren't making money selling JL Audio?

OZ Audio "these are the speakers that produced the first "perfect score" in IASCA competition"

That was a perfect score for sound quality BTW.

Buy the biggest amp you can afford.

You're right my bad for asking dumb questions. Anyways, know that anyone who decides that that rms audio guy might be a good person to buy anything from is wrong. First of all, if you're a girl, he just wants to sleep with you, and yes, he's 34. He tries to use his "skills" for his own advantage by saying he'll be nice and "cut you a deal" if you mess around with him, why you ask? Oh, he'll more than tell you he already has enough money. Girls, just use that as an fyi if you're considering getting anything from him. I'm sure all the guys would be fine though, after all, it's apparently just a stupid idea for girls to even know a thing about cars.

Thanks; I'm just going to get this stuff from "Sound on Wheels" in Charlotte/ Rock Hill. After everything, I'm so sick of dealing with it all and just want to spend the money and get it put in. Chances are I'm not even going to be all that excited about it now anyways.
