Sub Direction

Hi all

I will be installing (with my friends) 2 2400x1 Audiobahn amps and 3 10" flame Q audiobahn subs along with components , my question is which diretion do you guys have your subs pointing?
in towards the car or to the back? i like the idea of seeing them when i open the trunk, but i feel that the other cars ive heard sounded better with them pointed in.

thanks for the input.

Facing back towards the trunk is the best so it has somthing to reflect off of, it will sound better that way.

yea exactly...the more walls the sound hits the more it resonates and gets deep and loud

It's not deeper because it hits more walls, it's deeper because the length the note has to travel is longer if it is facing the rear. Lower bass notes, take longer to develop, and you can't hear them enless they have developed. Basically, if you want deeper bass, face the subs to the rear, however, leave yourself some slack, and play with them a bit, some cars really do sound better with the subs facing forward (transfer function of the car).

I didn't end up getting the CL I wanted, so... I"ve been steering clear.... Kind of hard to be a part of a forum for CL's when I still have my Accord, with no plans of getting rid of it now (just one of the biggest systems you've ever seen)!

Audio 101 tells you that for every surface reflecting sub bass (<75hz), you increase 2-3db.

You are correct on the sweet spot part. You have to adjust your enclosure, port, direction, etc to gett eh standing waves to hit at the listening position.

That has to do with loss... it doesn't increase the volume of the note, it simply reduces loss... If I were to play a subwoofer through a maze, and put a mic on the other end, it would not be 500 times louder because it bounced off 30 walls.... I am a bit rusty on this right now, I have Accounting on the brain, but you're minimizing loss much like you would do if a 12" sub was fired through a 12" tube, less sound would be lost, than if it was fired into a infinitely open room... Correct me if I am wrong please, I'm still a bit brain dead...

Oh, of course. IT's not exponential. It's "corner loading" Firing subs into more surfaces (inital reflection) builds SPL and db.
