stereo advice 2...clarion vs. alpine?

OK....I decided to get rid of my dvd player and screen and everything and just get a regular old cd playing head unit. I can't decide between these three. If anyone has any opinions I would love to hear.

I always buy stuff and then read about it on here after and wish I had done a little research first...so this time I thought I would try to get a little advice and some opinions first before I blow cash on something thats not up to par.

So here are the options

Clarion ProAudio DXZ935

Alpine CDA-7897

Alpine CDA-7998

The Clarion seems like the best of the three, but it doesn't play mp3's (not a big deal to me). I don't know though...what do you think????

7998 is also a couple hundred bucks more...and it only supports XM radio. I really like Sirius, and don't like XM at all...I know its the best deck of the three though...

But to answer your question, I want to get rid of my stuff because I hate my Kenwood stuff. I got the M700 with a single din kenwood cd player below it, and a dvd under the passenger seat. The M700 sucks. It works well and has a good picture for dvd and touchscreen, but its the most boring display I have ever seen for anything other than dvd. For cd's or radio it just puts a little display in the center of the screen with the channel or track but no graphics or anything. You can pick between about 10 backgrounds, all of which are either hideous colors (pink, orange, puke green, etc) or terrible patterns. It's shitty to look at. I looked at some clarion screens and they have full color displays with all sorts of moving graphics and pictures. On top of that, I had to have a custom dash kit built to fit the double din stuff (I bought this stuff before Metra kit was out). The custom kit I got looks lousy. Just looks ghetto.

Oh yeah, also I don't like having a big screen in my way all the time. I don't like how it sticks out and blocks the climate control, and I don't really like having moving parts in my dash. Always worry about it getting stolen too.

Final complaint is that the kenwood cd player is a flimsy, miserable piece of crap. Its made out of lightweight plastic and is really junky. An alpine from 10 years ago is better than this POS.

Phew. Felt good to bitch about this.

So I want to get a good regular head unit and use the aux. channel for my dvd sound, and just run the dvd player to a couple visor monitors or something.

This is what I have in my dash right now

Oh yeah, the monitor is for sale. Highly recommended

you should really be going with an Alpine 7995. It is on sale on Crutchfield right now for only 300

IMO I think that for the money saved the 7995 is the best deal.

In terms of sound, go with Alpine. I have the clarion Screen, But I'm using a Alpine eq to control my sound.
