Replacing mids/highs on stock headunit?
Replacing mids/highs on stock headunit?
Now that I have waaaay too much bass (13W7) I am in need of stronger mids/highs out of the stock speaker locations. I DO NOT want to get a new headunit because I think they look cheesy in the CL-S and I like the steering wheel controls.
I was told by the local shop that they wouldnt even sell me replacement speakers without also getting an amp to drive them. He also suggested disconnecting the rear 6x9's and running the amp to the fronts only. He said that running one channel to the right side, and the other to the left would sound great.
I dont really WANT to have to get a new amp, but I will if the stock headunit isnt strong enough to overcome the hella bass I have.
Elduderino, especially any suggestions? Anyone else with a stock h/u and big system that has aftermarket speakers?
thanks

if you have the money... look into something called a Cleansweep... they run about 300$ or so... it is great if you want to keep your OEM HU and are looking for some clear sounds...this link should help explain what it is...

For the most part (I know there are exceptions) stock speakers tend to be pretty efficient. Meaning, they play fairly loud with the low power they receive. Afetrmarket speakers tend to sound MUCH better bet are usually less efficient. If you are looking for aftermarket speakers because you want more volume from your stock head unit, I think you're in for a frustrating search. An amp and new speakers is the way to go if you ask me.
