2006 avincar TSX speaker upgrade kits!
2006 avincar TSX speaker upgrade kits!
For those of you that don't know, the avincar TSX speaker kit has either 6 or 8 speakers - two dash tweeters, two or four door midwoofers, and two rear-deck subwoofers. The tweeters are German-made silk domes that play much lower into the midrange than the OEM tweeters, and elevate the vocals from being ankle level up to nearer eye level. The US-made midwoofers play much clearer mids and much snappier midbass, and the US-made 6x9 woofers play much lower and tighter than the factory. Those both use poly cones (the by-nine uses "titanium fairy dust to reflect UV to last longer in a rear deck) and synthetic rubber surrounds for much longer life and better sound. The 6x9 is very long travel compared to the stock by-nine and has a bumped back plate (like a big subwoofer) for longer excursion.
The TSX kit has been tested by a number of forum members, and then bought by a number of forum members, and there are a number of reviews on this forum.
If you want your system to be a lot louder, this is not the kit for you. You need an amp upgrade, and many on the forum have done one (as have I). But if you want it to sound smoother, with less distortion, and better-sounding bass - like what a factory upgraded sound system should have sounded like - then this is a great solution. You do get more listenable, usable volume, due to lower distortion - but it won't blow you out of the car.
They are not the "best speakers available for the TSX". IF you upgrade the stock 18wx8amp in a TSX, you can get better speakers. But if you want a drop-in, plug-and-play, no-cutting speaker upgrade that works with the factory amplifier, this is the best sounding speaker system you can get - we guarantee it.
The speakers come with spacer ring stacks for a precise fit, new hardware when required, and Acura speaker plugs. The tools required for installing them are a phillips screwdriver and a pair of pliers (plus what you use to take the door panels off). These speakers have been tested and the crossovers have been massaged and tested to make sure we are getting all the performance out of the factory amp that's possible, and that these speakers work well together in the TSX.
If you get our speaker kit and try it out, and you don't think it is right for you (and you haven't put any holes in any speakers with your Makita : ), we will take them back and issue a 100% guarantee. No restocking fees.
The kit comes with instructions for installation, but if you decide to have it professionally installed, it's usually $150 or so.
If you would like to place an order, it's faster to email us than to PM me : )

OK, for the last few months we've been getting LOTS of inquiries about the TSX speaker kits we started doing last year. We've struggled at times to deliver the kits, with supply problems and with bandwidth problems at our business (we've been very busy in the shop, too).
So we've taken a few steps on the speaker kits.
- New midwoofer. The European maker of the door midwoofer is no longer going to make the part unless we buy 600 pieces at a time. We had heard rumours of this last year, so we asked the US company that makes our 6x9 woofer to submit some various speaker drivers for review. One set has been in Pilbox's TSX as a test for months. In his words, it outperforms the original European driver. We held off on making a change until we knew that it was reliable, and we're satisfied that it's as good or better in many respects as the original.
The new speaker kit has a US-made door midwoofer. Still uses a synthetic rubber surround and weather-resistant poly cone. Same price, and per our tester, better midbass.
- Now available in 6 and 8-speaker kits. Due to demand (and the fact that I finally realized that buyers were NOT disconnecting the rear door speakers as I had hoped), you can order the TSX kit in 8 speaker form, with 4 door midwoofers.
The advantage of having the avincar rear door midwoofers is simply that they are quieter. The fader affects the sub and the rear doors at the same time, and the rear doors kind of drown out the other speakers. Since you can't fade the fronts AND keep the by-nine woofers loud, a better solution is to replace the rear doors with a lower-efficiency speaker. (The best solution is to disconnect them, but we already covered that : )
- Outsourced, pre-made spacer parts. We have contracted with outside shops to make our ABS and wood spacer rings for the kits. In the past we had made them by hand, now they are done with CNC routers in bulk.
- New shipping guy. We now have a part-time college student hired just to assemble and ship speaker kits! He can assemble them out of off-the-shelf parts since we are having them premade, not making them for each order. This will allow us to respond to orders much faster than in the past.
If you bought a 6-speaker kit and want to add rear midwoofers, contact us and we can get you a set for $75 shipped lower 48.

Hi eldude. Thanks for posting. I had contacted you before on these. I was going to add a 10" sub and you recommended against the Avincar upgrade, stating that they'd have a hard time keeping up with the sub. I have since had the sub installed and have been able to get tweak everything to the point where I am happy with volume and the balance between my mids/highs and sub. (I have disconnected the rear 6x9's). I am not looking for more sound, but better sound. My question is, how much lower output can I expect compared to the stock ones? Right now, when listening loud, I am listening in the mid 20's. Would I be able to bring my sub level down a bit on the sub amp to match the Avincars, then turn my volume up a bit more to get the same levels I am used to?
Also, what would the cost be without the 6x9's since I am not using them?
Thanks!

Wow! I hope I'm getting back to everyone's e-mail inquiries! Thanks for all the interest!
Bully, we can try it and you can see, but I am still skeptical about the OEM amp keeping up with a real sub.
