recs for new car stereo?

so i've been driving the past couple months w/out the cd player working. yes, the damn thing is stuck, and 3 cds are still in there. tried banging on it, playing with the lid, but to no avail. i think the motor mechanism doesnt work in there.

should i take it to dealer to get it fixed? or worthwhile (and cheaper or just as much,) to get a new HU?

i was thinking of getting a new aftermarket head unit, and possibly with navi. any recommendations? since the headunit controls the orig Bose sub, will the new HU not be able to utilize the bose sub? do i have to redo the entire sound system too? I don't need anything fancy; something with in-dash cd player (am i player w/ fire again? haha), and if still around tape player (but not necessary).

circ city have any good deals? or just go to reg. stereo shop? i live in LA. thx in advance for any recs.

you can try taking it to the dealer but if they say the thing is busted and try to sell you a new one. buy aftermarket.

theres tons of units available in single and double that will fit and do a better job than the factory unit.

if you want navi; check out crutchfield for specs and pictures. and try to narrow it down to exactly what you want and whats in your budget.

there are work arounds available so you can still utilize the factory subwoofer.

and good luck trying to find one w/a tape player unless you dont want navi.

oh and after doing proper research and narrowing down what you like; go to your local stereo shop. im sure there are excellent ones near LA. do not go to best buy/circuit city for installs. (circuit city may have some great deals on decks right now though)

Aftermarket would be the best thing ever and plus the "Keep your stock sub with aftermarket headunit" DIY. I would personally jump into the Pioneer DEH-P600UB or P700UB... or from Alpine CDA-9884 or CDA-9886. All 4 units are amazing. Although I'm in the SQ era of car audio, I would recommend the Pioneer 800PRS which is just ridiculous when it comes to SQ. Shop around, see what suits your needs. Any questions or need of recommendations, PM me.
