radio help

sorry if this has been asked before

basically my dad owns a 3.2tl type s. His radio got jammed, so he bought another one off of ebay. He looked and the connectors are wrong on the back. so we took the peices apart (the radio and cd changer are different parts)
We put them back together, with the old radio but new cd changer. The radio worked, but the cd changer said CHEC and then after a while ER ER1. Any ideas?

or would it be better to get a new head unit. Can a head unit work with the stock speakers/sub and still work easy?

Yes. There is nothing special about our system/speakers. Only thing is you will have to do some custom wiring to get the stock sub to work with a aftermarket radio. Its not hard.

Hmm, I thought you would encourage searching, I suppose I was mistaken-
Of course I do not know where everything is- I'm not a mod & do not spend as much time on here as one. More often than not I have done searches for others to assist but this poster did not mention searching first- Maybe he didn't know about the search function.

ok im about to do this, just making sure i got it all right before i buy a HU.
so the stock speakers and speaker amp dont need anything special to work with a aftermarket HU, while i need to splice the sub wires to rca's to the headunit. does the sub have a amp or does it run off of HU power?

I think the stock amp is only for the [stock] sub.

Someone correct if wrong,

Code:
stock HU -> EQ -> EQ.bass -> stock amp -> stock sub
             |--> EQ.nonbass -> HU -> speakers

I think this is what you're looking for?

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-116/retain-working-bose-sub-when-changing-aftermarket-headunit-690434/

I've been searching for your answer but I swear every reply in a thread I would read would be like "search for it, it's been done before already" but the original thread is no where to be found.

im still really confused. i read those threads but not sure still. Ok, so i got the speakers working. so do i cut the connector off of the wires from the old eq? (green connector behind climate control)

also, on the rca inside leg, its like a insulation. do i strip that?
