I just bought a Valentine One a week ago. I've been wanting one for these for years and finally caved last week and bought it. I have to say, I am really disappointed with this product, in fact I wish I had not purchased it.
I live in a moderate to densely populated area along the I75 corridor (near Cincinnati) on which I travel frequently. I am getting quite a few false positives (frequency is about 1 per minute). I called tech support yesterday and they walked me through shutting off some of the features (x band mainly). They said that some highways are getting new traffic radars which emit a strong laser signal (1 unit every mile or so) and the detector picks this up. Additionally, the detector is so strong that it picks up doors of shopping centers along the highways. This is really frustrating for me because the detector is supposed to tell you when it's a junk signal which I'm not getting.
Additionally, I stuck the detector in my 2011 TL the other day and it was interfering with the crash avoidance system (according to tech support). No interference in my 2004 TSX.
Another negative is that I find myself a bit overconfident behind the wheel with the detector. Before I had one I was typically driving 7-10 over the limit, but in the past week I have caught myself in the 15-30 over the limit range.
I'm going to call next week and see if I can return this. I'm thinking about looking at one of the Escort GPS models, but am not sure if I'll have the same problems.

I was in the same situation awhile ago too. I was debating between a V1 or an Escort 9500ix. I would 100% recommened the escort over the V1. Here are my reasons:
1) While arrows and counters might be nice, do you really need them? If your detector is going off, just slow down!
2) The GPS on the escort is sooooooo useful. When I drive normal routes, my detector isn't going off at every speed display thing. It learns where they are and does not beep while driving by it. (I'll explain my situation later). On the V1, if it is going off all the time, I could imagine that you would start to just ignore it every time it goes off. So the 1/100 times that the radar is actually a cop, you may just ignore it because you're so used to having it go off.
3) Even though it might be $500 (and $100 more than the V1), if it stops you from getting a ticket once, it pretty much pays for its self. And you have more confidence driving (which may be a bad thing)
4) The Escort has very good range and I've been using it for almost a year now and it has saved my every time. This weekend it even saved me from laser, which I didn't even think was possible.
Okay so here's a situation that the 9500ix defeats the V1. So I'm on a road (that I always speed on) that goes from a slight turn to a straight away. Down that straight away, there is a speed display thing (that doesn't take pics or anything), and I've driving by it enough that the escort recognizes it with the GPS and does not go off when I drive by it. So one time on my way home, my detector goes off around the turn, so I'm like wtf and slow down. The GPS was on and everything so it had to be a cop. Sure enough, there was a cop standing right by the radar display using his own radar to take the speeds of cars. Because I had my 9500ix, I knew that there was a cop there because it usually doesn't go off on that turn, even with the straight away. If I had a V1, I would have thought it was just the speed display, and would have kept speeding and gotten a ticket. This situation alone I think is a deal-breaker for the Escort with GPS over the V1
Hope this helps!

I have a V1 and I'm very happy with it. When I lived in a rural area it was ridiculous how far it would pick up radar. The arrows are useful because cops hide at banks, walmarts etc because it fools most radar detectors. But if you know that you normally get 1 bogey at that particular spot yet 2 bogeys show up you know theres a cop. Plus it will show the different band.
The radar wont replace common sense and sensible driving... But when I drive my muscle car I can't help but light up the tires and that radar detector has saved me from many a tickets... Its not even worth buying anything other than a V1 or a Passport.
But that GPS feature on the new passport looks very useful. But not sure how well it stacks up in actually detecting radar/laser. The V1 has front and rear Radar and Laser detectors. Very high quality ones.
Newer is not always better... I had a cobra and some other radar detector in early 2000.. I threw them away.. such junk. I went back to my dads late 80's radar detector. It had 1 orange light and a mechanical buzzer or something... Big fat box of a thing but man was it good. Comparable to the 200 dollar radar detectors in the early 2000's.
