Questions for those with Viper 550 remote start alarms...

I am having a few quirks with mine. The installer said it's the car.

I have to unlock the car with the viper remote before remote starting it. When I remote start first, the factory alarm goes off.
The car still starts though.

When I remote start the car, the stereo will not turn on. I have to put the key in & turn it to run like normal, then it goes on.

I don't know if it has any effect on #1, but I used the grey key that came with the car for the bypass.

Did the guy not wire it right?
Thanks

LMAO! I think the installer screwed up. I have PERSONALLY installed a few 550ESP to the car, and you do not have to, in any way, shape or form, unlock the door before you remote start it. As for the radio not coming on, that is correct, the only things that are SUPPOSED to be functional upon remote start is the heating/air conditioning system. If you want the radio to be accessible during remote start, another accessory wire needs to be tapped, VERY EASY.

You can remote start it without unlocking it, but if I do, the factory alarm goes off. I have to press unlock on the viper remote to stop it. However the car still runs. Any ideas on what wires he messed up on? I downloaded the install manual from DEI's website. Also what wires need to get tapped for the radio to come on. I really wanted that too.
Thanks

sounds like the fool installer did not use the start signal to disarm the factory alarm. sounds like he did it correctly for the disarm function but not for the start. all he needs to do is tap a wire from the AUX output and use a diode to isolate it. send the same signal he is already using to disarm the factory alarm.

Yup, sounds like the installer did not hook up the factory alarm bypass wire

factory dissarm wire can be connected to the tumbler in the drivers door right. Just find the wire that grounds when the lock unlocks?? What wire is that? I'm having the same trouble.

There is an output to disarm the factory alarm, this is triggered when the remote start begins. They did not hook it up, and are only use the lock/unlock wires to arm and disarm the factory alarm. There is a thrid wire they can kit to disarm the alarm, without unlock. They are being lazy, and here is why:

Disarm No Unlock - blue - driver door key cylinder in door

They don't want to get in the door and run a wire through the boot.

Oh, and your radio doesn't come on because they did not hit the ACC wires on the ignition cylinder. They only taped ignition and starter. Lazy.....just lazy....

12volts white + ignition harness
Starter black/white + ignition harness
Second Starter N/A
Ignition black/yellow + ignition harness
Second Ignition N/A
Third Ignition N/A
Accessory yellow + ignition harness
Second Accessory white/black + ignition harness

They did not conenct the last two. The DEI remote start alarms have isolated outputs for two additonal circuits. I just did my wifes Expedition, and it's the same, two acc wires, gin, and starter.

Ok, so blue at the tumbler, or key cylinder. I got ya. I already have my wire through the boot to "factory disarm" on my brain.

No luck here. Do I have to tap the blue wire before it goes into that tie that plugs into the door to keep the wires in place?

Wow, I wish I knew this about a month ago. I was having the same problem with my Viper 750. Everytime I would autostart, the factory alarm went nuts.

I took it back, and they said the only way to fix it was to kill the factory alarm. So they cut the factory alarm wires and sent me on my way.

Shit, so all they had to do was connect the blue wire in the door?

When I had mine on the auto. They just grounded the blue wire in the door. They tried hooking it to the disarm lead, but the installer couldn't get it to work right. Grounding it out did the job.

I personally installed the 550 on my 98 2.3 cl and I was having the same problem. All of the tech sheets I found couldn't correctly ID the factory disarm wire w/o unlock. but the way I got it to work was to ground the factory hoodpin and trunkpin wire on the factory alarm which doesn't allow the factory alarm to arm Im assuming and now mine is fine. As for the radio it is not sopposed to come on when you remote start the car but can be made to by tapping into a second accessory wire.

Make sure you disarm the alarm, then remote start the car.
