Question Question on upgrading stereo system

I own a '99 TL and would like to upgrade the stereo system. I would like to put in the 2002 TL's 6-disc changer, but nobody will commit and say this will work. My local dealer in Louisville and a call directly to Acura have yielded little information as to whether this can be done. Acura says they have not tested this scenario, so they do not know what may happen to the electrical system or anything else for that matter. Same answer from my local dealer. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Also, on the 6-disc changer, does it have random play capability, and if so, is this with multiple discs, just one disc or both. And if it is possible with one disc, does this mean you can only have one disc in when shuffling, or can you have more than one disc in, but still only shuffle one disc. Thanks again.

as for random play, it only does random per disk, not for all 6. Yeah it sucks.

As for the 6 disk in dash changer, it will work, but it will cost you a ton of money for the head unit.

My suggestion is to just get the Alpine CHM-S620 6 disk trunk changer. I have it and I love it. Single disk in the front, 6 in back.

NSXNEXT is right the stock headunit of the 2002 TL is very expensive. In the neighborhood of $762 expensive (as per my dealership price...I checked it out when someone offered to buy mine).
It will work in a 99-00 TL though. In fact there is a guy on this board who has done it...in fact I think you might be able to find instructions on it if you do a search.

Sure it can be done...not too difficult either...no more difficult than installing any other stereo. You should be able to get the 6 CD changer cheap from people here who have replaced theirs...but WHY? Why would you want to install that one vs. installing a 3rd party one that's less expensive, looks better, and has MANY more features?

Call me conservative or old fashioned. I like the idea of using Acura parts that I know are made specifically for the car, however, after reading some threads, I obviously need to re-think that position. I also like the idea of knowing it will fit snuggly into the alloted space for the stereo.

I am more than open to suggestions. I am looking for, preferably, an in-dash 6-Disc changer with the ability to shuffle all of the discs or one at a time. If it shuffles one at a time, I don't want it to be because I had to take the other five out first. I also still use cassettes, so I also need a cassette player with it as well. I like the sound of the Bose speakers, so that is not an issue. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, like I said you can probably get them cheap from someone here if you want one. But keep in mind the headunit is just a repackaged third party unit. Also, you can make just about any HU fit in the space where the double din 6 disk changer would go. As for what you just described...most any of the good name brands have at least one model that does this...alpine, rockford fosgate, kenwood (my favorite), clarion...and plenty more. For a good comparison chart, go to www.crutchfield.com and look at all the features, then go find it cheaper (as crutchfield charges 100% over what it should).
