Question: Infinity Kappa powered by stock amp?
Hi Silverknight............question...
I'm baaaaaaaaaaackkkk....
I was just wondering. So, I have the stock system with the amp/sub in the trunk. I still have my Infinity Kappa speakers that should fit my car. Should I replace the stocks with the Infinity Kappa.
Thanks for any help

Yup. You can do that. However, your output power (aka volume) may be decreased because the Bose speakers have low impedance (or so I heard) but your aftermarket speakers have high impedance (more than likely at 4Ohm). I never had stock amp powers aftermarket speakers so I dont know how much the volume will be lowered. I think it's worthed a try since I'm not proud of stock Bose speakers.
I had the infinity speakers running off the BOSE amp for about 2 days and it sounded OK, but once you place an aftermarket amp in there...they come to life.
If you plan on staying with the stock amp...I would suggest not to place the infinity speakers in there. It's time consuming for such a small difference.

I'd put them in. Silverknight there has been some discussion...and I still have been meaning to measure the impedance of our speakers...but I do believe that the door speakers are 4 ohms. The stock sub in the TL's is like 1/2 ohm. They're most likely quieter because of a lower sensitivity...a speaker that uses a paper cone and cheap butyl rubber surrounds is a lot easier to move than the Infinity's.

BOSE
OK I am brand new to the board, my girl has recently acquired a 97 CL with the BOSE. I want to replace the headunit, and then the speakers later on. I have a 95 Maxima, with that car you can buy an adapter to use an aftermarket deck and keep the BOSE speakers and amps. Do you guys know if this is available for the CL as well? And assuming the BOSE is the same in the AC as the Max the speakers are 1ohm with the bose. So if he puts his Infinity in they will not get the sound you should from them. The resistance on the speakers will be much higher than what the system is used too. Like if your amp is bridged at 1 ohm you might have tons of RMS power, but same amp running at a 4 ohm load will only be putting out around 25% of the 1 ohm output...
Anyways thanks for any help in advance...

but I say YES! I'm running Infinity in my car and I personally believe there's a huge difference.
