Post Playing CDRs

I'm having problems playing the first track of CDRs in the stock hu. The HU is having problems recognizing the beginning of the track for some reason. I'm using TDK Certified Plus cds and I'm using Adaptec CD Creator 4. Anyone know a fix for this?

I don't think the head unit is defective. I think the laser is not strong enough. I was burning at 4x, then I burned again at 2x. The 2x cd worked perfectly. To all those having problems playing their recorded cds, try burning at the next slowest speed.

Sounds like a writing problem, I have no problem in the TL head unit with CD-R disks burned on my hp at 10x.

I use some cheap CDRs (blue HI-VAL) and they work fine. I've had problems with other (gold) CDRs...

Goldn's right. Avoid the silver or gold bottom CDR's. Blue bottom CDR's tend to be read better by lasers. The darker the blue the better. They work best for Playstation games too! ;-)

You may also want to use a different program to burn these CDs like Nero. Especially if you are doing a "On the fly" copy of tracks. Are you burning them from mp3 or wav files? What kind of writer? Try and stick with Yamaha, Plextor, or HP.. you will always get good results.

BTW, I'm writing on memorex 80min and TDK 80min at 10X for me on Yamaha with no prob.

I'm using Yamaha CRW 4416E
I'm writing with Adaptec EZ CD Creator 4
I'm using TDK (blue bottom) all speed media.
Yes, I'm converting from mp3 to wav.
I still get the problems every once in a while. I might try a different program or upgrade my writer.

Have you tried your problem CDs in a regular stereo? Also, Adaptec has a program called "Direct CD" that can sometimes mess you up if it is running the same time you are trying to burn CDs.

I have found that Nero seems to work better when I am burning directly from mp3s. Adaptec works fine when you are using wav files.

Good Luck.

Similar to liutang, I find that recording at 2X speed always works. If I record at 4X speed (max writing speed on my Plextor), my Sony ES head unit can't read it about 15% of the time, and the CD changer about 20% of the time (for some reason sometimes I can play them in the head unit but the changer gets a read error).

I never have any problems with them in my Discman or in my stereo, though my friend's bookshelf unit sometimes gets read errors on them when recorded at 4X just like my car stereo (I think it's an Aiwa system).

This will depend on the burner you have and the sensitivity of the CD readers more so than the CD-Rs themselves, though I have heard that the green ones are the worst and the blue ones the best. I've even heard of people who have to record at 1X to get a finicky stereo to read them. Good luck.
