Pioneer Avic D3 Successfully Installed in 04 TSX

Hi,

I've been browsing this site for a while before I finally got the nerve to try and have an AVIC D3 unit installed in my 04 non-navi TSX. I don't have pictures of the installations process, but as you can see in the 'after' pics below, the unit is mounted where the center storage pocket would normally sit, below the HVAC controls (the pocket was removed whole and we had to cut into its mounting brackets to make room for the HU). The neat thing about this install is that I retain the use of the "not an ashtray" tray. All of the work was done by Car Audio Specialties in Belmont, CA , and I am very pleased with the outcome; I strongly recommend these guys!

Using the controls is not a problem at all - glancing down at the unit will take some getting used to, but so far it's not as awkward as I feared it might be. I think mounting a screen in the stock location gets you better usability, but it's a much more complicated installation.

Nice! I've got one in my SUV and love it. This unit is so easy to install and bypass, they really scored a winner with it (especially at the price point).

I would wreck my car if it were that low in the dash.

Total cost about $1,500. Including the Avic D3, backup camera, BT adapter, ipod connector, and steering wheel control adapter.

From the pictures on your website it looks like you have mounted a similar unit in just about the same spot in a TL:

He did that for a customer. In addition to being a site vendor, Travis does great work out of his shop, and has taken on projects like custom subs and custom mounting kits for forum members.

Yeah, but that's where the factory radio is mounted. Thanks for checking out the website.

Hey did you lose the ability to control your stock radio from the steering wheel?

You would have the option of either having the steering wheel continue to operate the stock system, and then you control the D3, or the stock could control the D3 and you'd have to set the stock to aux-in and volume manually. Can't have it both ways unfortunately.

I was also wondering about the Avic install. I already installed the D3 in my 2000 Accord and i was thinking about buying it 4 my '04 TSX. I looked everywhere 4 some kinda in dash kit 4 it but found nothing. It looks pretty good in urs bro. I just think looking down that far is just a lil much 4 my taste. I'll have 2 think of something else.

Being a former 6G Accord owner myself, I bet the AVIC is a clean fit in the 2DIN opening of your Accord.

Dogs, I've personally put a D3 in a 2001 accord, you're good to go.

BUT WAIT... Get the new F series coming out soon, its totally sweet. And supposed to be well priced!

Do you know what kind of mounting kit did they use? Can you still function the factory head unit?
