Noob Install Question
Noob Install Question
I am trying to figure out where to get a 12V supply to an in dash EQ and I was just going to use the cigarette lighter supply, but It'd be better to run it off a fused source. Should I just buy an in line fuse or tap into my amp wire which gets its power directly from the battery. Thanks!

My car audio powers are having trouble understanding why anyone would put an EQ in their car.
You should be able to use the 12 volt constant, 12 volt accessory and ground wires from your deck harness. If you choose not to..... you can get these wires at your ignition harness.
- 10 gauge white wire (12 volt constant)
- 12 gauge white/ black stripe wire (12 volt accessory)
- steel dash bracing (ground)
I have an 04 TSX and I am getting one because it can convert the balanced signal that comes out of the TSX HU to an unbalanced signal because my amp does not support balanced inputs. Thanks!

Not to mention that the EQ you are referring too will make a very noticeable difference in SQ. Once you are done with the install, set your factory presets on the stock HU to "Center" on everything. Use your crossovers on the amps first, then fine tune it a little using the Four.1. The adjustments on the Four.1 are very touchy, so a little tweaking goes a long ways.
We ran only the front channels of the HU's output to the Four.1's inputs...I'll give you more details on that this evening when I have time to explain. Look at it this way, the Four.1 is being used like a very nice LOC, with some tweaking capacity.
Look closely at the pictures in my thread. You will see how Blake wired the EQ.
I see you guys have been brain washed by the rocket scientist too.
Audio Control makes some great pieces for OEM integration dut the Four.1 is not one of them. Especially if your just going to set it to flat.
Ahh well. Good luck.

I’m not a fan of Eqs in any audio system but you can pick up switched 12v from the 20 pin factory amp connector (the one with the speaker wires). If you don’t intend to use the EQ to adjust your system then you are spending a lot of money for a differential line converter. You would be better served to use an amp with differential inputs and skipping the expensive EQ. You will have to decide what sounds good to you, if you want EQ then get one with the balanced inputs, since this is what the TSX HU output uses.
I know you had inquired about the BALUN, it looks like I’ll have the new active design ready sometime in September. I’m taking a few weeks off to rest and get my diabetes back in line. I don’t know what the cost will be but it should be less then that fancy EQ you are looking at.
There is really no magic or “rocket science” to it, balanced differential is a superior method of sending audio signals, studios and high-end audio have been using it for years. Apparently Panasonic decided that it works better in cars too and the Panasonic system in the TSX uses it. You will probably see more systems going this way as the car environment gets more electronic “noise” gadgets. It also appears that Acura is moving away from BOSE and going to Panasonic DLS. I wonder if the new MDX with DLS audio uses balanced signals??
Balanced signals lines are identified by a + and – signal pin with a shield (3 conductors in all) and unbalanced car audio interface uses a signal pin and a ground (two wires). You can’t connect a balanced signal source to an unbalance input because you will short out your – signal pin. This is what makes the whine that Reach got on his P/G amp. The whine went away when he installed a balance line to unbalanced line converter (BALUN).
I’m not really a rocket scientist, but I do have well over 30 years electronics experience and have been fixing audio equipment for a long time. I have the experience and education to make the call on what type of output the TSX HU uses. Not to mention the success of my Prototype BALUN on the installs that don’t use balanced input amps.
Uncald4, if you are unwilling to accept my findings and you don’t have any scientific evidence to the contrary then I would ask that you keep your comments to yourself.
I stand on my record; everyone that has followed my instructions on adding an aftermarket amp to the TSX has had success. The ones that charted their own course had noise problems.

A correction, I got Panasonic and Pioneer confused (that’s old age for ya). The TSX uses a pioneer system. The 06 MDX comes with a Panasonic DLS system. I would still like to see the wiring for the 06 MDX to see if it is balanced or not.
