So much storage yet people listen to maybe 20~30 songs. I'd still buy one though..

Cool stuff. I love the fact that they incorporated the scroll wheel that they developed for the iPod mini. Other than that though, nothing really groundbreaking in the new iPods. That's good since it won't give me the itch to upgrade. Hehe. They do keep getting smaller and smaller though.

Most people I know don't even get close to filling them up, so they use them as portable, fire-wire backup and storage devices.

I don't know about "most people", but I have 90GB music and I use it all. I like to have access to my entire collection no matter where I am. Too bad Apple is obsessed with size rather than storage capacity.

i think the biggest you should expect would be around 60 gigs (toshiba has 60GB 1.8" drives coming) but even after that i dont know if i would be willing to pay $700 for 100 gig ipod.

apple is not planning the 60 gb. the 3gs have dropped in price and i picked up a 20gb + 50 gift card from amazon. i dont like the click wheel offered on the new 4g and current minis. Basically all thats new is the "extended" battery life. the 20 doesnt even come with the dock or remote anymore!!

...or, Apple could ditch the 1.8" drives and start using 2.5" drives, which would not only reduce the cost of production by a considerable amount, but increase the storage capacity as well. It would be nice if more companies would start focusing on the semi-portable mp3 player market. I don't need an ipod small enough to slip into mypocket, just small enough to carry in and out of an automodile.
