New Head Unit In Navi Location

Okay, I've searched for about 4 hours, read a lot of threads but I still haven't found what I'm looking for (sing along next time). I have a non-navi CL-S. It's time to replace the head unit (only the radio works these days.)

So the first thing I was searching for was has anybody put a double din unit in place of the oem navi?

It doesn't appear so or I didn't find the magic search terms.

So my next question is, (for those with experience with the stock nav) is there enough height to accept a double din up there in the stock nav location? (I know from reading there's enough width.)

Sorry if my questions have you scratching your head "...he says he has a non-navi car but he's asking navi questions..."

I'm contemplating an aftermarket 7" dvd/media/nav unit in a converted IP. Move the ac controls and clock down, eliminate the lower head unit altogether.

No. The height and width is ok. The depth is not. The two metal braces that hold the navigation in are in the way. You would have to cut those out.

There is a video of it here

Just skip to the end to see the navigation removal.

What is the small bose unit that is hid behind the nav unit?
How much do you need to cut out behind the nav to fit a double din receiver in its place?
Also does anyone know of where to find install photos of previous installs like this?

I believe that is an equalizer unit. My car did not have this since I have a 2003 CL. I have never seen a photo of anyone doing this type of install. If you want to do it then just open up and see what's back there. If you do, take plenty of photos. Someone else may want to do that install. I thought of it but its not worth cutting out those brackets to fit the depth of a stereo. You would have to cut at least two 6X6 inch pieces.
