how do ya think a 500/1 would push 2 JL 12w6v2 subs? im debating to weather getting 2 w6 or just 1. i dont know if the amp can handle 2 or it might be too much power for 1. lmk what ya think.
How much you paying for the 500/1? I have an amp that does over 3 times the power for what I'd guess would be about the same price... Sundown Audio SAZ-1500D
As for 1 sub vs 2, it's better to have more than enough power (headroom) than to underpower subs, especially if you don't know what you're doing when you hook everything up... Personally, I wouldn't run that gear, but that's a whole other can of worms... If you're dead set on that gear, just 1 sub should be good...

Well, it's rated at 1500w at 1 ohm at 12v... Probably around 800 or so at 3 ohms... The great thing about the Sundown is the efficiency, and the power output below 1 ohm... With minor electrical support, you can run it at .5 ohms daily... That's what I was going to do, but ran out of money for the subs and everything, so I'm selling it...
I gotta give some rep for the sundown amp. I am wanting a 3000d they are great amps it would be way better than thejl and prolly cheaper and last longer. go on caraudio.com and search it nothing but good reviews

There's no way you're over-pushing it... The only thing I can think is that the box is way too big with way too much port... I'd start by turning the bass boost down... That's your first problem...
Another thing that might be wrong with the box is tuning, and setting some kind of SSF on the amp... Is the box a pre-fab? If so, it's probably tuned pretty high, and you're going to unload the sub... This is a very bad thing, and could kill your sub right quickly...
its a custom ported box, spec for a alpine type R. yeah if i turn the bass down and turn the gain up it slams like it bouta bust. I heard them amp are overrated and some guy told me that it would push 2 w6 pretty good. thanks for the head up tho
Well, if the amp's overrated, it wouldn't push 2 W6's... And if the box is spec for a type R, it might be alright, but I'd rather have a box spec for the sub I'm running...
And clipping = dirty signal from the amp. When you push an amp too hard, or don't have enough electrical to back up the amp, it'll clip. This means it's going to send a very dirty signal to your speaker, and is what generally kills subs when they are underpowered... What happens most of the time is that people will just crank the gain and bass boost, and they will try to force the amp to put out more power than it's capable of... The only way to tell this for sure is to set your gains with an O-scope.

do you have a bigger alt to charge the extra batt. and 0 is the smallest wire that should be used when having more than 1 batt. I myself had 4 guage all the way also big 3 done in 4. I noticed a pretty big diff after redoing everything in 0. much of this i have learned from matt. also it may be over rated a bit but not by much it is a good amp though. if it sounds good with bass down why did you have it up????

That 500/1 will not be too much for the 12w6v2, IMO i think it is made for each other. Just set the gains to however you want it and turn the bass boost off.
I was gonna do the big 3 in 4awg with the extra battery cause i won't be pushing that hard. Just a dub-seven. Think i will be okay?
