Need Advice for a System in a G Coupe

This is the estimate for the following stuff to be put in. Does it look reasonable?

8" JLW7 - $400
JL500/1 Amp - $600
Box for 8W7 (they'll build it, this can't change much) - $300
4 guage amp kit - $99
High level converter - $40
Labor - about $100

Total with tax, etc. - $1604.

Seems a little high to me. What do you all think?

Sounds like you're not going to have much room in the trunk!

you could probably get better prices on most of that stuff if you shop around online.

$1600 just to add an 8" sub? Wow, that's insane. You should be able to find the sub, amp, and the wiring kit a lot cheaper on the net. Also, what kind of box are the building for $300?

omfg,

learn how to use a tool, you could buy a circ saw and the wood and still save 150 off that price, and youd have a saw !

Thanks phipark and nujunglist, I was able to find the amp and wiring kit much cheaper online.

UNC - The estimate is from Roanoke, Virginia, and there aren't a lot of options so I guess they think they can charge what they want. But I'm still looking.

those prices are terrible

buy a damn premade box, and for only an 8??? (consider a 10" it won't take up hardly anymore space)

the speaker price and amp are expensive, but in line for jl audio retailer drilling you a new 8==D ( O )

if you pay these

Box for 8W7 (they'll build it, this can't change much) - $300
4 guage amp kit - $99
High level converter - $40

you are insane... i know there isn't much in roanoke, but look stuff up, blacksburg must have cheaper prices than that... jesus, circuit city wouldn't rape you that bad (i dont think)

either buy stuff online: wiring kit, amp, line out converter ($40 ha!) , box and have it shipped then pay them to install it

www.knukonceptz.com for wires and converter
www.onlinecarstereo.com for the jl stuff...

or at the very least go to a local shop and pick up a wiring kit, loc, and box yourself

Does anyone know of a mildly hooked up G so that I can get an idea of what boxes have been fitted? Not looking for custom fibre glass encloses, just a clean, 8" or 10" install.

Also, why is a 500/1 amp needed for just one 8? Wouldn't a 250/1 be enough?

no 250/1 is not enough to push 8" w7. itz w7! it need more then 250 watt! i got my Jl 500.1 amp for 360$ shipped from ebay. i juss started emailing all the seller dat wuz selling jl 500/1 and negotiated. i first sent emails to all the sellers (about 10 sellers) for 350$ shipped and they all rejected but somehow i negotiated and got 2-3 deal who wanted to give it up for 360$. so yah...this works so go try it!
