Need advice on AMP wiring...

I just got a MEMPHIS AMP yesterday and since the amp accepts both types of inputs (low level or high level) I was wondering... Which ones should I use? I have the stock BOSE CD player...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thx,

MontrealCL

Use the low level inputs with a line level converter from one of your rear speakers.

Couldn't you just the high level input from the rear speaker? That way you wouldn't have to buy a level converter.

best bet is to run the sound before (yes, before) the stock amp into the HIGH level inputs on the amp... then you are not raising and lowering the power lever 2 or 3 times, you will get a much cleaner signal into the amp and out of your sub.

1997Acura30CL, Don't you still run into noise problems using the low-level signal from the Bose system because it's signal is so low? Reason I'm asking is because I'm installing a new amp myself. I also have highlevel inputs on my new amp. Just hooked it up the other night that way...It sounds okay, except there's some notable hiss when the volume is down. Is this another reason I should hook it up using the lowlevel signal with a linelevel converter?

Driven, lower gain control on your amp. That should fix it.

try the gain thing... and also make sure your power wire is not near the wires comming from the deck, that is where most of the noise is comming from. Also, dont run the power wire down the right side of the car, that is where the signal wires run and you'll introduce noise there.

Hey man, are you talking about a LOC? Because that's what I ended up using....an Audiolink PD4 powerdriver.

I am not following you with the LOC. What I was talking about is anything that boosts the line level. Audio Control makes an in dash equalizer/line driver that can boost the signal up to 13 volts. I don't have the Bose system my self I just thought that maybe this would help you guys that do. I think they also make two and six channel line drivers.

I know what you're talking about now. LOC is line output converter. The line driver sounds like a good idea. As with any "power booster" I just fear distortion. I think we need an electronics specialist to explain the difference between these two products. My guess is they work on the same principals, but the line driver accomodates for low-level signals....it steps up preamp signals whereas an LOC steps down postamp signals.
