Navigation system update

Hey guys I was wondering what is the highest update that will work with the 01-03 DVD players. Im asking because I came across a 2006 and 2008 update disk online that says its dual layer but I didnt think they would work because im assuming that our DVD players from 01-03 were not DL.

Ya it won't work. I had a rental TSX once, and I tried popping that disc in my 01 and it didn't read it. I would do a little more research though, just sharing my experience with you.

Any discs after 2.05 ARE dual-layer. I'm currently running 2.60, I popped it into my computer an it is DL.

I'm still running 2.05 so I was considering jumping on the $149 price for 2.60. How do you like this version?

Shit at this point unless I can get a free update of any update that will run in our cars, im not gonna bother wasting my $149 because their have been too many changes in the world location wise since 2003 and if we can run a current update from a 2009 car this is no point in wasnting money

Has to be the black DVDs. I'd be all for updating IF they update the actual navigation setup. EVERY time I use it to get somewhere it wants me to turn miles before I should and go through some random ass way even when set to the shortest or most direct route. I always get to the location and realize there was a 10x shorter/easier way. It'll tell you to take a left then a right then a left then a right then a left when it could have just had you go down several blocks and taken a single left.

2004 and up is a different disk and format so no, you cannot use those in your CL.

Could someone tell me if the 2.60 disc can see Toronto and maybe surrounding areas, cause I'm thinking about doing the navi conversion.

I wonder if some of the DVD software programs out there that can convert DL to SL, or compress or edit the DVD's then burn them would work on the new disks?

i tried that once.
it will NOT work.
Just too much info to fit a single layer.
So no.
I think a better option will be to somehow retrofit the new navi-sysystem unit to our cars and then use the same display so it still looks the same interface wise but has more features.

u can't compress a SL from a DL, dl have about double the amount of space. UNLESS you can find all the "dummy" material. i've seen this done before.

for example, wii games, the actual useful data might be just 1-2gb, while they're burned on a 4.7gb SL dvd... so people have threw out the dummy material to upload it for download (illegal).

but i think they burned it on a DL for a reason

No parts of Canada are included.

Burning it to dual layer still does not work. It appears they may have some additional data tracks not accessible from a normal DVD drive.
