My Stereo Install (w/Pics)

Hey everyone!! Well i have been lurking in the forums for a few weeks now trying to get a good idea of what i need to do to get a really good sounding system in my new 2007 TSX W/o Navi and i think i finally have all i need.

First i need to give mad props to mercman and his no splice harness. Although i did not buy his i am building my own off of his specs and pictures. With out that none of this would be possible. I also need to give props to saltyone for his clean install that inspired my own install.

So here is the story. I had a 2003 Acura RSX that was totaled a few weeks ago after a 70 yo woman rear ended me on the Interstate. I made $6K on the old car that i put down on a certified used 2007 TSX with 4100 miles onit. Got a sweet deal. I will post pics of the car with the tint and lip spoiler when it stops raining here in Tucson.

Anyways, my stereo install will consist of:
Factory head unit
Self built no splice harness
Fosgate Punch 351S 4 channel amp (will replace someday)
Fosgate Power 350 M mono for the sub (will replace someday)
Infiniti Kappa 60.7s components in the front
Infiniti Kappa 63.7i 3 ways in the rear door
disconnect 6x9s in rear deck
Audio COntrol four.1 EQ to accept balanced inputs and covert to unbalanced for amps
Alpine 12" Type R Sub
USA Spec IPod adapter
IPod Video to hold all my music

I am doing all the work myself since I am a hard core "Do it Yourselfer"

So far i have the sub box done (totally inspired by saltyone's install) and i am working on the amp rack and rear board to cover it all. I am just waiting on the fabric to cover it all.

I am in the middle of making the harness. I used a aftermarket wire harness that i had in my RSX. It was a 20 pin harness that i cut down to a 12 pin. It fits perfectly into the wire harness in the TSX now. I am just going to T-Tap the remote wire and it should all be good to go.

Well so far that is it. I will keep the forum posted on my progress and hopefully all will work well.

Here are some pics of what i have done so far. I hope someone finds it all as usefull and everyone has been on the forum. A lot of very helpfull info if you know how to look.

Steve

A couple of questions.
I only see 12 pins on that connector, the mating connector uses 14. I assume that you are not using 12v and gnd but if you connect it the wrong way you will send 12v down to your amps audio input. You should incorporate something to prevent the connector from going in the wrong way.

The pins on your connector look awful thick, the pins on the factory connector are small. Did to measure the pin thickness on the factory amp and compare it to the pins you are using?

What about the pin spacing? The TSX connector is metric and most molex and amp connectors are US.

Jeff,
You are right there are only 12 PINs on my connector. I wont be using the ground on the car harness side but will use the 12v for the remote turn on. I will just use a T Tap on that and run it along the other cables. I will make a little harness to go around the plug to ensure i dont plug it in the wrong way and to make it a nice snug fit. I have been using your picture of the plug so i know which one is the hot wire. Sure would suck to get that one wrong.

The connector i am using is the aftermarket 20 pin connector i had on my RSX. It connected the car harness to my aftermarket stereo so it is all the same size. I pulled out my center console tray and plugged it in just to make sure. It fits like a glove. I guess the pics make it look thicker than it really is. I thought they would be to thin until i plugged it in.

I guess i wont know if it all works until i plug it in and turn it all on. I have all my components excpet for one, the Audio Control four.1. Damn ebay seller is taking forever on that.

Did a little more work on the install today. Got the box and rack in just to make sure it all fit correctly. Will not be able to run the wires until next weekend though cuz i am waiting on one more part and i am still building the cable from the HU.

yeah it has been a great amp for me too. I dont like the 350M and want to get a new one but i cant really afford it right now. When i bought the 350 i wanted the same series as the 300X but couldnt find one. Someday they will all be replaced but for now i think the 300X will do a fine job pushing 4 Infiniti Kappas at 2 Ohms.

Alright well i finally have it all done...mostly. I took a couple days last weekend and just ripped the car apart and installed all my system. SO here are some pics of the final product. I still have some wires that i need to wrap up in my glove box and under the dash but that is nothing.

The system sounds great. I decided to install Infini Kappas all around instead of the Type R's i already has. Those are gonna go in the wifes Jeep. The Kappas sound great, the sub sounds great, it all sounds great. Super happy with the result. I will be upgrading the amps after i get all my old componenets and other household items im selling on ebay, off my hands. They will just pop right in the same place my current ones are. Same size so no new drilling or cutting will be necessary.

So here are the pics:

Here is my self built harness installed. It is molded after mercmans harness. Special thanks goes out to merc.
IMG]http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/harg311/DSC04011.jpg[/IMG]

I installed my AudioCOntrol EQ in the glove box so to not cut up any part of my center console.

my amp rack had to be modified slightly to accomadate a couple fans to keep things cool.

Here they are at night

My tweeters in the dash

Here are the Kappas 60.7CS in the front door

The Kappas 63.7i in the rear doors

Here is the Alpine 12" Type R in the trunk. I took the design from saltyones super clean install. I really liked the design. Mine is not quite as clean but cheaper i guess.

Well that is it. Like i said, i have a couple wires to tidy up but it is all done and it does really sound great. I also have a USA Spec IPOD control in the center console and it has worked flawlessly.

It's sweet to see your customization and really inspired me. My 07' tsx has the same mileage as you bought it and couldn't have a reason to start modding it. Great works and thanks for sharing the pics. One quick question, do the Kappa speakers fit nicely both in front and back? I had a terrible experience with my old car that the speaker cones were to high and the door panel couldn't be sealed.....

Glad i could inspire. I read all lot of posts on this board before even attempted to take a screw off my car. Once i had all the info i needed i pressed forward. It was all pretty easy, it did take two days but that was becuase i was extra careful not to damage the car.

As for the Kappas, yes they fit prefect using the spacers from this site: http://www.millionbuy.com/aihsb518.html I had no probelms installing or having them fit. The moutning depth of the Kappas are really shallow. I was worried at first with the 3 ways but they fit in perfect and the door panel had plenty of clearance.

Yes the box was actually a bigger box that had two seperate chambers for two 10" subs from a previous stereo intall in my RSX. I cut one half of the box off and just used the other side for the 12" Type R. The box is factory spec and it is .80 cub Ft. internally. I just need an amp with a little more power to really make it hit. It sounds great now but at very hgh volumes it cant handle this sub. This is one great sub.

How did you secure the box/rack to the trunk? I'm going to be installing an amp rack in my TSX this weekend. Thanks!

I used 4 L Brackets and attached them to the under side of the trunk behind the seat. If you look back at the 10th picture i posted you can see the 4 brackets. I have 1 on either side of the box and then 2 on top of the box.

It keeps it really secure. Plus the rack and box are in there pretty tight.

Yes i do still have the stock 6x9s installed however they are not plugged into anything. I really didnt see a point in removing them. I have heard that some people use that hole as a port for the bass but i really dont think they make that much of a difference. It sounds great as it is.

Thanks, this have really nagged me to hear people say that the bass is confided in the trunk if there is no opening.
Have an ongoing project with my European Accord.
I'm going to put 2 12" alpine type r in it. And a couple of Infinity kappa 6x9 in the rear. With kappa perfect in the front.

Your work have inspired me
