my stereo is going nuts

so on occasion, my radio will change channels by itself. say for example, its on 104.1, then it will go to 103.9 by itself, then go back.

anyone have this happen to them and what have you done to fix it?

btw its the stock Bose head unit

thanks

In over 5 years I've never heard of this issue before. Strange.. First thing I'd check is the manual knob.

Do you have steering wheel controls? If so, take the controls apart and clean the contacts, sometimes they get corroded or flakey and can cause this

If that doesn't work, take it to a priest.

yes, i do have steering wheel controls

is there a diy on taking apart the controls?

i was kinda thinking it might be the head unit because right when i bought the car, the previous owner had to fork out 600 bucks to get it repaired, and ive had to have it out twice for warranty work

Sounds like a sticky buttons, have you spilled anything or used cleaning stuff that may have gunk behind the keys?

How do you take the steering wheel controls apart to clean the contacts? I've had the problem with drift described by the OP, but only two or three times since I bought my '02 TL new. But the steering wheel controls are getting increasingly flakey -- sometimes I'll go to raise the volume and the CD will move to a different track or the radio station will change instead. I want to clean the contacts but I have no idea how to go about it. Thanks for any advice.

You can clean the contacts with an electrical safe cleaner. I have used wd40. I sprayed a little in there between the contacts and blew out the excess with compressed air. The buttons felt and worked like new.....whereas before they were sticky. I did the same to the power window buttons. Cover your wheel with a towel so you don't get the solvent on the leather.

Thanks! So there's no disassembly required?? I wasn't expecting it to be that easy. I'll give it a try.
