mp3 changer

Could I add on a MP3 CD changer with FM modulation to my 2nd gen CL's factory HU?

You can add an Alpine changer using an adapter available at www.autotoys.com. Forget the FM modulator crap. I have a Sony mp3 changer with FM modulator built-in. I got so frustrated with the sound quality that I disassemble the unit and use unmodulated signal.

I was looking into doing this myself and just throwing in 6 mp3 CDs and using shuffle play. How does song navigation work if you hook up the Alpine CHA-S634 to the stock head unit? Change disc# and track# by using 1-6 and seek? Random button? And don't you technically need 2 adapters? Stock headunit -> M-bus adapter -> AI-net adapter -> CHA-S634?

I'm not sure which adapter it was but there is only one needed. I check it out for you guys if you want too.

MisterMeoff, you need to clear out your PM box. Select "from the beginning" and delete things from your "Inbox" and "Sent Items"

I checked with a local store and they said I'd need two also. If you know it works with one, I'd be interested in which one you used. Thanks!

There is nothing in my inbox or sent items. I've been having this problem for more than a week.

You would have to select "from the beginning".

go here and take a look at the botoom of the page, under your sn to see how many messages you have.

I just deleted all the sent items. I'm good to go.

Brian, you have a 2nd gen CL? If you do what exactly did you do to get it to work?

MY factory HU is acting up. some lady tried to make a quick left in front me while i'm traveling straight. So I slam on the brakes and my water tumbles forward and splashes onto the HU. I was praying that it was ok. Like 3 hours later while playing a cd, it starts spitting out cds. Then I put the car in park, it started spitting them out again.

I don't even want to take it to the dealer. I would rather get an aftermarket HU and call it a day.

Why don't you just by an ipod. Then you can buy an adaptor that plugs into the back of the headunit giving an RCA input.

I have most of my music burnt to MP3 cds. It wouldn't make sense for me to buy a $300 piece of equipment to download again all my MP3 cds to. I would rather just buy an aftermarket hu and mp3 cd changer and call it a day.

Would someone please answer the question of *HOW* it works through the stock head unit? I understand it's possible to do, and you need adapters, but how does the head unit operate / navigate songs and what capabilities are lost from hooking it up to, say, a CDA-9815.

edit: posted right as you did above. still need someone who's using it with their stock headunit that can help out.

I talked to a service tech @ an Acura dealer and he said the 2nd Gen CL factory HU has no aux output on the back to add another component such as a cd changer.

He LIED! There is an input that you can put an Acura CD Changer or a converter that will allow accept RCA's.

I know, I've done it!

Its called a blitzsafe adaptor. Find Streeteffectz on this site and order one from him. Well worth the money and cheap too! After the simple plug and play install you will have a set of RCAs that you can plug anything into. To access them you just press the CD button twice.

autotoys.com sells an alpine based 6 disc MP3 changer that works with most 98-up honda/acura vehicles, including the CL. It plugs directly into the changer port on the back of the OEM headunit. The downfalls of this are you can only play 99 songs per disc and there will not be any titles or folders because of the limitations of the oem headunit.

A CHA-S634 will NOT work with the OEM deck... that changer works on the Ai-net protocol and cannot be controlled by an M-bus unit.

Another option is JVC has a universal MP3 changer that uses a seperate display. You would then want the auxillary input adapter to get a clean signal into the deck. Autotoys.com also has those adapters.

....
If you have a Peripheral adapter then it works fine with CHA-S634. I saw it working in randomwalk101's TL.
