Question Modify NAV or install new system

Question. I have a 200 TL with NAV. I've been trying to find a dealer who will modify my NAV to view DVD and TV but all turned me away. They all recommended a new installation instead of modifying my NAV. They said it can ruin the NAV and also void the warranty. Whay do you recommend?

Thanks,

If a new installation is better, please make some recommendation. I don't need the top of the line stuff. I want the best value for my money.

Thanks,

Ryan

It can void the warranty...done correctly it won't ruin the NAV. Search for it...I don't have the link, but many have done it. If you want a new system I can suggest ones...

Well the bad news Ryan is that anything new is going to cost you a lot in terms of a new screen, tuner, DVD etc. I would really suggest you look to see how to mod your NAV first, because putting in a new screen means that you have to get a motorized one, which means that you have to remove either the popout tray (preferred) or the stereo (not preferred). Those aren't the only ways, just the cheapest. As for models I've always preferred Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, and Panasonic. MSRP's are below...hope this helps...

Panasonic:
- CY-VMC7000U $1599.99 In-Dash 7” (Diagonal) Wide Color LCD Monitor/CD Player
- CY-VMD9000U $1999.99 In-Dash 7” (Diagonal) Wide Color LCD Monitor/DVD Video Player

Pioneer:
- AVX-P7300DVD $1950.00 In-Dash 7” (Diagonal) Wide Color LCD Monitor/DVD Video Player
- AVX-P7000CD $1300.00 In-Dash 7” (Diagonal) Wide Color LCD Monitor/CD Player

Kenwood (note: Touchscreen):
- KVT-910DVD $2,800.00 Touchscreen In-dash Mobile TV/DVD/CD Player
- P-907 $2300.00 Touchscreen In-Dash Mobile TV/CD Player

Alpine:
- TME-M790 $1,600.00 7" Widescreen Motorized In-Dash Monitor
- CVA-1006 $1,300.00 7" Widescreen Motorized In-Dash Monitor/CD Player

You'd need a separate DVD player that you'd put under a seat for the CD only players...but it may end up cheaper to do that than an in dash DVD. Pioneer makes a whole host of TV tuners, which you will need to watch TV. They run from $200-$800 MSRP.

This is where I get laughed at...my amps are in my closet...my subs on my bedroom floor...my center channel JL XR400's are on their way...my JL XR653CSi (ya know the new model that just came out) are about to be on order...and all I have to take pictures of for you are my pieces, and my car computer which isn't much to look at either. Give me a month or so...and I'll send some your way. I really appreciate the offer (ha you're preening my feathers of course I appreciate it). But ya know, this is as good of a time to ask as any.

I am at a crossroads for my project. Barring external stuff I'm doing...I'm about to kick it into high gear on my car audio and get some stuff done to show. Now I really have three paths...and I'd love your opinion streeteffectz...I really have two choices...and the first is obviously a lot easier and less costly. Currently I have 2 JL 12 w6's, two Rockford Fosgate 800a2 Powers, and a set of JL XR400CX's.

No matter what, I am going to need a Rockford Fosgate 600a5 or 600a5 Power (in fact if you know of where to get any let me know...I am finding them for $300 and down) to power the four component setups and the center channel. I'm admittedly worried about only being able to send what would end up being 100 watts to each set...but they should be all right I think. So on to the choices:

1) Go grab the two JL XR653CS sets and refab the door panels; wait for the JL XR653CSi sets and refab the door panels; or just get coaxial sets...JL XR650CX's and don't refab the door panels.

2) Get another 12 w6 and make a fiberglass box to take up 3/5 of the trunk for a total of 3 12w6's; sell the two JL 12 w6's and buy two 10 w7's (looked/sounded really good at CES in NV); sell the two JL 12 w6's and buy three 10 w7's; sell the two JL 12 w6's and buy two 12 w7's.

Whatcha think? And you seen a cheap 600a5 or 600a5 power around...I would assume used...
