K40 Calibre vs. Valentine One

Anybody use or have experience w/ both of these? I know Valentine is considered the "gold standard" --- but I'm intrigued with the very clean integration options of the K40. I know the V1 has the concealed display unit... the K40 uses small pods. Obviously, I'm most interested in effectiveness. If the K40 system doesn't even approach the V1 (especially in terms of false alarms), it's not even an option.

Thumbs up

I have Valentine 1 and it has saved my butt several times traveling from
Salt Lake City to San Diego. I've been shot w/ all kinds of radar and laser, too,
and Valentine 1 saw all of them even before I saw the speed trap. Also w/
the arrows its nice to know where the cops are hiding.

A K40 is not in the same league as the V1.

It's like comparing a Benz & Saturn.

The k40 is also wireless & all wireless systems have less range & reaction times then a power unit.

If you want this type of system look at the Escort setup, & the Blinder Laser system.

That's the kind of response I was looking for... I had originally planned on buying the V1, and then became curious with what else was out there... especially from a "stealth" install perspective. Two of my cousins use Valentine's, so I know what they're all about. The K40? I was clueless...

Thanks for the feedback guys...

A better 'comparable' but cheaper unit would be the Bel RX-55 / RX-65 models or Escort 8500 x50

Oh, and amadeus, clear out your PM box if you want me to reply to you.

Why not do the V1 and have the concealed display etched into the rearview mirror? Then you have the best of both worlds, stealth and a great unit.

On a side note, the K40 Calibre works quite well, no problem with the wireless technology at all.

^^^You just added a wrinkle in my plan The K40 *looks* nice, and their site is pretty informative, although I wonder how much of it is "marketing". I'm just concerned about performance since it doesn't get the airtime that the V1 gets.

I've seen the mirrors with the V1 display --- do they make auto-dimming ones? If they do, that may clinch it for me. The K40 w/ dual sensors + laser etc. really gets uber expensive in a hurry. The V1 is still pretty reasonable for all the protection you get.

I'm gonna go with whats been said over and over again, any cordless unit can't hold a candle to a hardwired unit. To conserve battery life (read: get any kind of acceptable battery life) they are sampling frequencies on a modulated basis, as compared to a continuous basis. With modern laser and instant-on radar systems, that's the difference between detecting it and missing it completely if the timing is 'off'.

Also, I live in the one f-tard state that considers them illegal and will ticket you for even running one. I've still got it, but my put-it-on, take-it-off mentality prevents me from wanting any kind of permanent, or even 'concealed' display.
