Installing subs in a 99TL
Installing subs in a 99TL
Ok I read the DIY guide but that was not really detailed enough. I am installing two Alpine SWR-1042D 10" Type R Subs on a Alpine MRD-605 mono amp. I am keeping the stock head unit. I wanted to know where exactly the factory amp and sub is and how do I get to it. Also what gauge wires do I need to run everything. Basically I want to know exactly how to get the job done. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
Welcome!
first of all, how powerful is your amp? Second, the factory sub is behind the back passengers seat, you can't miss it. Third, you run the power wire either thru the grommet above the brake pedal or thru the side vent. You need to tkae the remote from either a fuse or from the factory amp. You will need a Line Output Converter to connect from the factory amp to the aftermarket amp.

I think a 4-guage wiring kit should be adequate. In order to access the factory sub, you need to remove the back seats. I took the long winded route and ran the power wire through the side vent over the fender well and into the car behind the fusebox. The grommet above the brake pedal is much easier. Then you take the cable and run it under the door sills all the way to the back of the car and under tthe seat, into the trunk. Line Output Converters can be bought at like Circuit City, BestBuy as well as online. You need to splice the wires from the factory amp and connect those to the LOC, and then connect RCAs from the LOC to your new amp.

Shah, no disrespect, but this does not sound like a project you should be doing without some supervision from someone with experience....remember, that if you screw something up, you could at the very least destroy your equipment, or do more damage to your car. Find someone locally who will help you do it, or take it for a professional install.....
