Insane Proposal: XM modulator (patent pending lol)

Hey all,

still waiting for my parts coming in before I "ressurect" my amp install thread

while waiting I've been thinking. FM modulators can only give FM quality which is shittier...whereas HD radio and XM gives 44,100 CD quality sound.

So my question is this, why hasn't a company made an "XM modulator" like the "FM modulator" to serve as an aux with good CD quality sound?...

If a satellite can transmit the signal, can't a small device?

This might be a million dollar idea so patent pending lol

This would not have any advantage over something like a Dice, USA Spec or SNHOND3... This option would likely cost significantly more and/or require more wiring and install effort if the goal was the use the stock XM equip...

An input with a 44.1k sample rate will not necessarily make your input into CD quality. It has the capability of outputting a so called cd quality sound only if the source is that good. This might be a waste for something like an ipod...

Don’t hold your breath, XM and Sirius hold the license for the frequencies they use. It is not likely that a 3rd party would be granted permission to make a modulator for XM or Sirius bands. It would also far more complicated then a simple FM transmitter because of the encoding, data compression and proprietary permissions. It will never happen.

Spectrum saturation would be the primary reason why this wouldn't work. The point of an FM transmitter is you use a frequency which isn't being broadcast in your area. Suppose you have no radio station in your area broadcasting on 101.1, so you set your modulator to that freq, tune in the radio, and you're good to go. But, if you were to drive to DC, where we have a very powerful station on that frequency, your itty bitty modulator would be broadcasting on the same frequency as a massive tower. Say goodbye to any good reception.

The issues only get bigger w/ XM, which utilizes digital signals instead of analog, as well as a signed encryption key to 'unlock' the receiver (unless you were to broadcast over XM chan 1 somehow), not to mention saturation, line-of-sight issues, etc.

But... don't let me kill your dreams, go sell the idea to Google for big bucks.

Like Bluetooth?
It was designed specifically for this purpose (and headphones, but whatever).
