Infinity tweeters

I have a set of 6.5 Kappa components and a set of 6.5 Reference components. I was wondering if it would be alright if I switched the tweeters on the systems. I was planning on installing the Kappa midrange in the front door and the tweeters in the sail panel, but I don't like the silver screen on the Kappa tweeters. I like the black screen on the Reference tweeters. Also, I'm partial to silk dome tweeters because they're not as bright.

I would expect that the xovers would then be wrong.

As far as I know, they both cross over at 3500 htz.

But unless they are identical in impedance the parts used to do that would be different.

And I betcha the Reference xover point is higher than that. I might be wrong, but I betcha a dollar.

I checked the specs that came with it. The crossover point is 3500 Hzt. I'll have to check on the Kappas on their website because I lost the spec sheet on that a while back. So, what's this thing about impedance? Are you talking about 2ohm/4 ohm stuff?

I just checked both Reference and Kappa boxes and the impedance level on both speakers/tweeters are 4 ohms. I also found that the Kappa tweeters' also crossover at 3500 htz. Sooo... switching tweeters should work, right?

Yes, it's worth a try... but here's a tip on the nature of impedance - it varies with frequency. Good drivers have an impedance chart - it's different for every frequency and it spikes around the resonant frequency, too.

The value of z (impedance's electrical abbrev) at and near the xover point determines the passive xover values. While almost all car tweeters say 4 ohms on them, they are all unique.

You could change the xover too, but then the woofer will suffer the same problem.

Oh, well, Infinity probably picsk the values with a dart board anyway
