Hey Shawhite
ok dnd it is really hard for me to give you an unbiased answer and plus i have never been able to audition the two speakers side by side with all other perameters equal (ie, same hu, same amp, same style box... etc) but i have heard both speakers in different applications and they both sound pretty good... reason i choose the jl over the kicker is ... 1 the kicker is very power hungry... 2 the jl w6v2 just sounded cleaner to me... not to metion that i believe that speakers are suppose to be circular due to the way sound waves propegate... but that is a whole another subject... i really dont think that you could go wrong with either speaker i am a jl fan and was impressed by the jl w6v2s i sampled so that is why i bought those speakers.. really the only way you will find the speaker you want is to go to the local dealer and test as many as you can... remember to try to keep the varibles equal so you will have a true compairison of just the speakers.... but it sounds to me like you are looking for a single subwoofer that will give you alot of spl.. if this is the case i would have to recommend either the jl w7 ( i know you knew that was coming...) , the idmax, adire brahama, or even the phoenix gold titanium elite series...
I am such a big alpine a kicker freak thats why I wanna do Type R's. But reading and reading, I see alpine type Rs arent so efficeint and just affraid I would need a bigger amp than 650 watts. I talked to crutchfield and they asked me why not go with Infinity Kappas. My very first system was Infinity and It was nice and not a single complain. Now the final battle is on. Alpine Type R 10's or Infinity Kappa 10's. And yes I am kinda lookin for just one 12 that would give me great SPL and SQ. I have no problem gettin the 12 W7 but I would need a new amp.
I read that Onyx is taking preorders for their new LSMv.2. I think the 12" is $349 - that's $100 off the msrp of $449. If I remember correctly, it needs 1 sealed cubed and 650Wrms. Mucho SQ and SPL and it looks good. It has a semi-transparent white cone that'll light up with a neon behind it, if your into that.
if u had the power, i would go w/the brahma. it sounds great and gets very loud, in a small sealed box. go vented, and it gets even better...so many choices...
btw, im not trying to be devil's advocate, i like to think of myself as the devil himself...but what does a round cone have anything to do w/soundwaves? a supersonic jet isnt exactly round, but can produce earshattering sonic booms. trains are rectangle boxes but produce some of the deepest bass around when traveling down the tracks. hell, take it a step further...everything we hear in nature is produced by something other than a cone...! imagine that. i guess a guitar string is the best way to explain soundwave reproduction. u pluck the string and it vibrates, back and forth. move ur finger down the kneck and the pitch gets higher as the string vibrates quicker and quicker. that is all it takes to reproduce sound, so it doesnt matter if the pistonic motion is caused by a cone, a rectangle, or a damn triangle(bazooka
) for that matter, as long as other factors are taken into consideration, the sound will be good, or bad. whoever said mark logan eletrostatics are sh!tty??? what about the future? eletropiezo transducers that can be painted over...a covert speaker guised as a picasso??? cool stuff is out there

well 1st off systek i do not have time to give you a physics lesson do some research and you will find that odd shaped speakers will produce pressure pockets that will naturally distort sound waves.. oh not to mentions that odd shaped speakers will give you non linear movement of the cone resultsing from uneven distributions of force from the voice coil moving up and down... now with all that said lets move on to the subject at hand...
dnd i am also a pretty big alpine fan but when it comes to subs the alpine subs just dont compair to others on the market..... since i am a jl fan i would recommend 1 10w7..... i have a friend that has 1 10w7 in a vented box w/ 500w and it hits harder than my other friends 2 10w3... the infiniti's are really some pretty nice subs as well but i do not think that you will be happy with them... i say the 650w you have will work perfectly with 1 10w7...

I would love to get a JL W7 but that s 650 watts at 2 ohm. THe JL is a 3ohm woofer so Iwould roughly get about 400 watts to the JL. Another woofer I am considering is Diamond Audio M6 in a sealed box. I read about the kappas and the reviews say its the best sub for both worlds SPL and SQ. Myth or not I will find out. Is the 10 W7 louder than 12 W6v2. The Specs on the W6v2 and M6 are kinda similiar so I will look into that. I looked at Adire and that thing is just to much.
hey dnd it sounds to me like you are going on what other people say are good... i would advise you to forget about what everyone else tells you is good and go out there and try them yourself... go to your local dealer and tell them what amp you have and what you are trying to acheive and sample as many speakers as you can and come to your own conclusion on what sub is right for you...
one of my friends has 2 Kappa 12s and the bass was so smooth and clean. I really like the ways kappa sound and might lean towards them now. I had a chance to silence to 2 diamond audio M6 10s in a ported box and I swear it was 2 12s in a sealed box. They this guy opened the trunk it was a tub of fiberglass and so so gorgious it was a Lexus SC. So what do u think of the Kappas Shawhite.
personally i think that the infiniti makes a really nice product... but i would recommend the perfects over the kappa's... and the perfects should work great with your current amp... i have never had the liberty to sample the diamond audio subs... we do not have a authorized diamond audio dealer here in jacksonville... i luckily was able to sample there door speakers in one of my friends cars... but if you are planning on going with a 2 sub setup i would advise you to check out the w3v2's... i would say the 12w3v2 and the infiniti perfects are on the same level... and are around the same price (can be had for $179 ea on the web).... also one of the reasons that those 2 10 m6's sounded so good might have been due to the enclosure... a properly constructed enclosure can give you some astonding results...
Actually I really was considering the W3v2 but it jsut inst as effievcient as the Kappas. The Kappas sensitivity is 90 vs JLs 85. So woudnlt the kappas hit harder. THeres a Local, Kicker, Jl, and alpine dealer here and I was talking to him and I been friends with him and I said If I do 2 JL10 W3v2 how much differ would I notice from doing Kicker Comp VRs. His answer was not much at all, save the money and get kicker. They said its all about brands and how big your wallet is. He even said that when comparing the Type Rs and COmpvrs. He said u really have to listen closey to tell. (I think Alpine would sound better of cource
)

thats true, when u get into high dollar car audio, you are either paying for looks, name brand and/or higher performance, but not necessarily better sound quality. for example, you can spend just over $100 an a 10" idq sub and in the right enclosure, could sound like one of best subs you have ever heard. on ebay you can get a 10w7 for $475 and in the right enclosure, it could sound just as good. the only difference is that the w7 will get much louder cause it can handle more power and has a longer stroke.
these are things you need to consider when looking for a sub. first ask yourself what you are looking for, then focus on those types of subs. right now you are all over the board, and this makes it much more difficult to decide.

sensitivity is the ability for a speaker to turn power into sound....so basically a speaker with a higher sensitivity number will can be ran with less power... but this does not mean that since speaker A has a sensitivity of 90 and speaker B has a sensitivity of 80... that speaker A will out perform speaker B... it just means that speaker A needs less power to achieve a decent output.. however when more power is apllied speaker B might actually start to out perform speaker A.... also speakers with low sensitivity ratings generaly can handle more power...
and like i have said repeatedly go to the local car audio store and try them all out... dont let the sales man sell you something cuz he is more than likely looking out for his own pocket... they will try to sell you the line that they make the most comission on... that is why i tell you to take a cd to the store... find an amp that is equivalent to your in that store and if possible use the headunit you have in your car and sample all 3 speakers you are interested in... this way you can make a educated decision based on your own preferences...

well for a lil while I am gonna put off researchin subs and gonna start researching for Economics paper. Anyone ever done a 3000 word paper on "The High Cost of Dying" or "NAFTA".
