There are way to many subs out there to help you choose. It depends on what type of music you listen to as well as how well you want your system to perform. I suggest you search the audio section here for additional information it's not hard to find.

There is no best as you can probably tell. You can spend 100,000k and never find the best. Here's what will help you in your quest for better sound. Know your budget. Know your install abilities, and if you know you cannot do it right at your current skill level, either learn and practice OR hire the right people.

That said, my recommendation to almost anyone, anywhere, for anything is to consider a processor, run your speakers active, amplify everything with a quality simple amp (or amps if needed), deaden the car and seal what you can, and consider making bass with a sub the easy part. Most subs, within their performance envelopes, sound the same because they simply play bass...the last two octaves of the sound spectrum. On the other hand, your entire rest of your system has duty of the sensitive portions your ears discern, and a total of 8 more octaves! Spend the money here, and this is where the joy of car audio (or really, ..any audio) comes from.

It comes back to budget. It all costs money or time. There are ways to save money but usually that means becoming more knowledgeable so instead it costs time. How much do you have to spend on either? I can recommend an entire system from head to toe if you want and it will probably be great provided you can install it (or hire someone to do it right.) Of course if I'm doing the recommendation, I'm going to go all out from head to toe on the vehicle for you.

After I had a Fi sub if I was to spend on subs again that's where my money would go.
I was over powering the rms rating ,probally clipping the crap out of the amp every now and then and it sounded clean just about all the time. And it would bring the thunder.
Upgrade the HU for options.
A good HU will do just about anything you want now a days. DVD/NAV blue tooth, ipod, hook up cammeras, video games, and control mutiple amps crossover/eq settings.

I just miss having 6 in the dash but, that the only thing I miss about the factory HU.

sundown is the best bang for the buck sub, other than the fi subs in my opinion.
the sound really depends on the box though. sealed is more tight and clean, and ported/bandpass is more humming and loud...gl

Sundown sa's sealed sound pretty damn horrible.

They're decent subs, for rap, but not for anything else.

Dcon, jbl gto, dayton ho, and a bunch of others would be a better choice than the sa.

Boxes can be designed to do whatever you want, regardless of the type of enclosure. I had a 4th order that played rock/double bass very well (one of my teammates has a similar enclosure now for 8 SA-10s) and I've heard sealed boxes that sound boomy and loose. It's all in how you design the enclosure, not necessarily the type of enclosure.

I agree with you that sealed the SA's sound terrible. But they do very well in 4th orders, IMO. I've got a teammate running 8 SA-10s that are both loud and sound awesome on anything from country to Jeezy. Another buddy has an SA-12 in a 4th playing literally nothing but hardcore rock, and he absolutely loves it. I agree there are better subs out there for more of an SQ style setup, but the SA's do have their benefits.

Dayton HO or possibly TC Sounds Epic might be the bargains for SQ right now. TC's Epic would be more of a combination SQ-SPL sub in the right box, and the Dayton is more geared towards pure SQ. Advantage goes to Dayton for being able to stuff a 15" model in a relatively tiny box, and get great performance / efficiency. All of them at Parts Express.

would it be easier to add ipod adapter and upgrade stock amp to get more sound and no need to hassle with stock navi unit?

or its best to upgrade the HU unit with ipod ready? if do change to aftermarket HU unit with ipod ready, will i loose my stock navi from it working?

i just bought my 2001 CL with stock navi. so i am asking to see what is best way or easiest way to go without losing my stock navi. sorry for the noob question.
