Help a clueless audio guy out with his system (With Video)

Ok, so I made this video to help explain my situation. Bought this car from a guy, he did some things I'm not a huge fan of. Just hoping I can get some opinions/solutions. Here is the video kinda showing what my situation is now:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH-aAsQ6gdg

These are the general questions I have:

1) What was the cable he was talking about that would connect the two together? How would that work?

2) Is that stock bose head-unit like a particularly good one? Would I have to spend a lot of $$$ to get one with the same audio fidelity?

3) If I get an aftermarket head unit to replace the bose, is there any way to keep the steering wheel controls functional? I always dug those.

4) Say I just go back to the stock dash but replace the bose with a touchscreen - what would you recommend? Any particular brand? Sound quality is somewhat important to me, but even more important is the operating system. I want the menus to look classy, not tacky. Is it easy to find one with back-up camera support and stuff? Oh, and, is is possible to set it up so the backup camera turns on automatically when the car is put in reverse?

Sorry about the questions attack, I am really just clueless here. Any help with any of these questions is greatly appreciated.

In theory that would be possible. But.. The fact the factory headunit has no power etc means the previous owner used the factory harness for the aftermarket headunit.

IMO go back to stock. That's shoty work and pointless.

You can buy any double din touchscreen radio to replace the stock. Almost all have back up camera support.

Ditch the garbage that's in there now.

There is a way to keep the steering wheel controls. I believe it's in the DIY/FAQ/Info thread..

There is a way to get the steering wheel controls to work. I forget what they are called but it costs from $45-$60, i need to put that in myself.
It's sad that you have to clean up the car after that guy. Yea just get a double-din Alpine or Pioneer, oh and Kenwood makes nice decks also. In my opinion Alpines look the best. They have also drastically dropped in price lately.
