A few pics from my 2001 CL-S HU/iPod install

Important tools: Beer, and the instructions from the FAQ sticky.

My car in a billion pieces:

Alpine's iPod screen:

The finished install:

The RCA's hanging out are now coiled up in my glove box. I'm taking off to Australia for a month and a half, so I don't have time right now to do the speakers/amps. I've got a 15" Kicker L7 in the back already, so until I get back and get the rest of my gear in, I had the foresight to pre-run all three sets of RCA out of the back of the deck so that I don't have to take the whole damn thing apart again.

Pardon the cheeseball 9.99 vent holder. I have a ProClip on order that should be here Monday which will clean the rest of it up.

Most importantly, a random YouTube video of how it looks at night:

Thanks again to everyone who answered my silly HU questions and to the dudes who recommended Best Buy for a place to pick up a Scoche kit locally. The kit itself is decent, but does require a little bit of trimming to get the AC/Heater controls to mount properly. The wiring harness was perfect, and if it helps anyone, if you have two Illumination wires and no sound with the factory amp, swap to the other wire - one's illum/dimmer, and the other actually lights up the factory amplifier (which is coming out of my car asap, heh).

hey when you installed your deck does it sit perfectly and firm. Meaning if you push the deck hard enough does it move back. Becuase i couldnt find any side screw points to mount the deck to the metra kit. Or is there a place and i just missed it???

The deck mounts to the Metra kit using the din can that comes with the deck. The single din doesn't mount to the metal dash brackets. But it's still very secure. If done correctly the deck shouldn't move at all.

I used a Scosche kit, not a Metra kit. The only issue with it is that the AC controls don't really sit all that securely on it, they tend to float up about 1/16", which is unnoticable to anyone but me, really.

That's normal with the Scosche kit. I'd take it back apart and either use a Metra kit or drop a little spot of glue between the two pieces.
