Is the factory sub crossed in the amp or the HU???

Guys,

Looking to add a sub to my system and my searches here have me confused.. Got a 02 TLS with Blose all around, and I need to know where the factory sub is crossed over. Is it from the feed out of the HU to the sub amp or is it in the sub amp? I am looking at putting a LOC before the factory sub amp, is this my best choice? I am adding an Audiobahn 10" 1800W sub with a Soundstorm 1400W amp (was gonna go JLW6V2 and Kicker, but $$$) and am looking for some punch, I want to make sure that the signal I am putting into the LOC will reproduce up to the 120Hz range.

Do i need a special Bose LOC or can I just get a generic LOC?

Any info is appreciated...

Great deals on Audiobahn and some non high-end stuff here (and super deals on monitors!!) www.caraudiodeals.com Sometimes the web site is a little slow but the prices are insanely low. I actually met the guy who runs it this weekend, he lives in my home area (RI)

OK that last smiley was in error (although sometimes I do feel that way about my home state...)

The signal that fed to the Bose amp for the sub has already been "crossed" for low pass. I don't really know which frequency it actually does the cut off but it should be around 300 Hz or less. I did not use LOC when I install my setup since the sub signal that comes out from the HU is mono (not stereo) low level signal. I just spliced the cable and connect a RCA jack and feed the signal to the low level input on the after market amp.

Hope this helps.

Great, thanks. Any noise issues???

Do you have a pinout of the connector to the sub amp?

Thanks again for the help...

So far no noise issue... knock on wooooodddd ....

For pin outs ... check out the diagram below. I got it from Iggy, a member from this forum as well. Look for the box below "Woofer Speaker". It says stereo amplifier but the input is mono from the EQ.

Here is the link:

Hope this helps.

Some questions about using the factory sub output...

I finally got my sub installed and it works OK... It seems like the sub out from my factory HU is too low of a voltage, I need to crank the gain to get enough volume out of the sub. Also, the crossover setpoint is too low for me. I am misssing the "punch" from my 10".

Another Q.. it seems like the sub volume decreases as the HU volume increases. Do our cars have an auto level adjustment for distortion feedback???

Any help is appreciated

Thanks,
Mark
